In the beginning of the Arthurian Legend the theme of Art of Courtly Love and Role/Responsibility of women was showed. In the beginning the Duke of Cornwall and his wife LAdy Igraine was at King Arthur's. When the king saw Lady Igraine he was mesmerized by her. The King wanted to have her for himself however she was married to the Duke of Cornwall. That did not stop the King from trying though. The King made an advance at her and basically asked Lady Igraine to sleep with him.

Lady Igraine refused the offer because she loves her husband and would not cheat on him. Lady Igraine also went back and told the Duke of Cornwall what happened and she begged him to allow them to leave together. The Duke complied with her request and they fled. The
