1. Rococo style was decorative, with asymmetrical designs, curves, with playful scenes depicted on furniture and vases. Gold was very popular in the furniture, churches, porcelain figures and vases. I like the Sevres porcelain potpourri vase (Fiero 58), it has a playful scenes with the cupids, has a lot of gold and wonderful gold throughout it. This piece has all the features of a Rococo vase.…

It is a quite painting you don’t see much but a road, building and a person in a blue suit just standing under a lamp post, this man also seems to be looking straight at you if you look closely.…
History of Art During my visit at Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, I came across several modern and contemporary artists. At the time of my visit the museum displayed different pieces created by women artists, they called this, “You Go Girl!” exhibit. While viewing these works I viewed different artists with different pieces but similar themes. Each artist used their art to convey issues or their feelings using different techniques.…
In this picture, we can appreciate the sunlight passing through some tree busts that were shadowing the area where I was actually standing when I took the picture. Certainly most part of the picture looks very dark and it does not really seem to be bright enough, however, I think it was very interesting the way the sunlight broke into colors resembling little rainbow lights around it.…
Throughout my visit to the Hirshhorn Museum there were many video, drawing, and sculpture pieces that really struck me. However, the one instillation that spoke to me the most was a performance piece called “Woman in E” by Ragnar Kjartansson. While I was walking around the museum I kept hearing this ominous and melancholy guitar strum. I originally had thought it was some odd music playing over the sound system to give the entire museum an eerie feel - however, as I kept walking the sound got louder and louder until I arrived at this giant ring of gold tinsel hanging from the ceiling. I peeked inside the ring of these glimmering steamers to see a woman, standing atop a rotating circle platform which also covered in the same streamers, wearing a shimmering gold dress and playing an electric guitar.…
As an intern art therapist, I work with child populations at a community center in Brooklyn, New York. The community center provides after-school programs for pre-K to high school students at no cost. Art therapy is also provided as a part of the programs for children who present behavioral or psychological problems in the classroom. Fortunately, I have opportunities to observe a classroom of children aged seven to eight and to interact with them prior to my art therapy session. The classroom teacher offers various artistic activities and frequently mentions that many children have benefited from these.…
For this assignment I was given instructions to grab a white piece of paper and crumple it into a ball. Once the paper was made into a ball we were encouraged to color the outside of the crumpled ball with colors of our choosing to express how we felt when we were angry. I used black, red and dark blue as those colors seem naturally dark and are excellent to visually express anger. During the process of coloring the outside of the crumpled paper, there was some sort of emotional relive as I imagined that my paper would be very dark and take the majority of the space as I wanted to show how I feel when I am angry. Surprisingly, when I uncrumpled the paper I was surprised when I noticed that only a small area of the paper was affected by colors that I thought would take much of the paper, I was shocked to see the end result on the paper.…
Throughout the being this class I have learned about many artists, their specific genres, and how they contributed to the art society as a whole. Some of the major artists that have made a space in my mind, that I had no knowledge of knowing before are Marcel Duchamp, Jason Pollack, Marina Abramović, and Julian Beveer. These artist are mentioned in the textbook relating them to the type of artwork they do. Nevertheless, I have pick chapters 4.5 Art and Illusion and 4.7 Art and War. Just with the title Art and Illusion made me excited to want to read and learn about the chapter.…
When thinking about this topic and how to address it I first began to really try and understand the meaning of macabre. The official definition is “disturbing and horrifying because of involvement with or depiction of death and injury” and its implication can be clearly seen in the images we have viewed in class. The whole idea of the macabre is thought to have come from a dark time in history and represents more than simply grisly images. The artwork I decided to truly focus on is Hans Baldung Grien, Three Ages of Woman and Death, Germany, c. 1510.…
Street art is something that some people might consider vandalism and not art, but there is one street artist who has shattered these rules and that is Banksy. Banksy has become one of the most iconic street artist in the world. Banksy uses the world has his canvas, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to create his works. Going as far as putting works up in Disneyland, he even went as far as creating a series of works on the barrier that splits Israel from Palestine. He has done all this and no one really knows who he is under the many masks he is known for wearing most popular being that of a monkey mask, and from the looks of it he does not have any interest in ever telling people.…

1. Distinguish between good and correct interpretations of an artwork by listing characteristics of each. Celine Dion's interpretation of the Stevie wonder song "I wish" is a correct interpretation because it stuck to the artist's intention. It has the exact same lyrics, beat, and tempo. Will Smith's interpretation of Stevie Wonder's song "I wish" is a good version because it was more pleasing to my own ears.…
Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation.…
In addition, art is liberating more than mystifying because when I went to the art museum in Washington D.C, the National Gallery of Art. Going into the East building where the modern art was located, seeing the huge space and objects that were in the museum was relaxing. I went to the museum with my parents and they were just looking around the art pieces in the museum as I did and enjoying their time in the museum. As we all looked to the art pieces, we observed and had our own interpretation of the pieces, it relaxed our minds and it took us away from the stress that was happening in our everyday lives. Which why I find art more liberating than mystifying.…
My class room is a highly diverse environment, with many students from different cultures, and age ranges. This is an intro to art classroom, meaning we are learning about the basics, and fostering creativity that students may not know they had. All students are required to take a class like this one and many of the students tend to be freshman and sophomores, but on occasion we have juniors and seniors. The seating arraignments are set up in groups. This is not by my choice because I am using the class room I observed this semester.…
