Every week in Chemistry class sophomore year there would be a day dedicated to working on a lab project. When all of the students in the class heard the work “lab” they assumed there would be fire, explosions, and foaming beakers. I wondered for a good amount of time why they expected a lab to be like this. One day we did do an experiment where there was smoke, foam, and a large popping noise that made everyone excited and engaged. People began recording and taking photos of the reaction which still had me puzzled. After the experiment was finished the teacher then asked, “Now that we did what everyone wanted, what made you guys enjoy this experiment?” The room was quiet until one person raised her hand. Her response was, “Because it is beautiful”. My classmates did not see lab as working on just a science experiment, but as a way to create a form of art.
