For this assignment I was given instructions to grab a white piece of paper and crumple it into a ball. Once the paper was made into a ball we were encouraged to color the outside of the crumpled ball with colors of our choosing to express how we felt when we were angry. I used black, red and dark blue as those colors seem naturally dark and are excellent to visually express anger. During the process of coloring the outside of the crumpled paper, there was some sort of emotional relive as I imagined that my paper would be very dark and take the majority of the space as I wanted to show how I feel when I am angry. Surprisingly, when I uncrumpled the paper I was surprised when I noticed that only a small area of the paper was affected by colors that I thought would take much of the paper, I was shocked to see the end result on the paper.

This was a great personal experience for me as there was some sort of emotional release when I crumpled the paper in addition to realizing that, I tend to concentrate on the negative when I become angry. In addition I tend to suppress anger which at times when overwhelmed I am more like a ticking bomb, ready to explode at any moment. This art assignment helped me view and analyze how some

This experience opened my eyes to think about my reactions to problems and to evaluate if whether or not it’s worth it to place so much effort on negative thinking. This activity came handy as I am currently preparing to leave my employment as I prepare to begin my senior year practicum. I have been stressed thinking about money and not having a steady income after I leave my place of employment. This activity helped me realized on how much time and effort I am placing on one event that has not even happened yet. Thus far, I am excited about this class and all the things I have learned and will continue to

Upon arriving at the art museum, a giant, electric blue rope greets me at the entrance. The artwork surprises me since I did not expect to see such thing in a small museum. The rope comes out of from between a woman’s tattooed that stick out from a hole in the wall. It continuously extends from there and intertwines through bright white pillars on the ground level. The almost mile-long rope snakes up the building through horizontal columns that separate each story.…

History of Art During my visit at Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, I came across several modern and contemporary artists. At the time of my visit the museum displayed different pieces created by women artists, they called this, “You Go Girl!” exhibit. While viewing these works I viewed different artists with different pieces but similar themes. Each artist used their art to convey issues or their feelings using different techniques.…

I love how involved, free, and undefined sculpture can be. Before this class I felt a well done piece of sculpture was clearcut, realistic, and perfect. I’m glad that throughout this class my view has morphed into something much extensive. Life is not perfect so why do people try so hard to hide from the truth.…

An Outside artist is the people that suffer the mental illness and doesn't have long to live, that interested in art, but the problem with them is they lose interest quickly after one painting, but the artwork they create is a high standard. Some the audiences might not understand what the painting is about, but all of the outside artist's painting has a critical meaning inside. It was a dull, grey, December evening, last year. At this time, I was painting with my watercolors on a rough cold-pressed piece of paper. I was carefully dipping my paintbrush into the colors, when a yell pierced through my ears, causing me to drop my brush onto the page, making my drawing to come to a close. Looking at the pool of orange on paper, I sulked and grieved for a few seconds, but got up and opened the door, in hopes my grieving didn’t…

In her 2006 article “The Trouble with (the Term) Art”, Carolyn Dean argues that the using the word “art” for both past visual expressions (particularly nonwestern) does not quite capture the true definition of what these pieces are. This argument is valid, to consider these works as mere entertainment erases a culture’s true history and identity. Dean has a very strong argument for the analysis and retirement of the term “art”, however the ideas surrounding the concept of “art” explain the larger issue as a whole. Carolyn Dean argues that pinning the recent idea of “art” on nonwestern works does not inform one about the culture, but rather condenses that culture into easily defined novelties.…

We all worked together making a script and practicing our performance.…

    Artprize Analysis

In understanding Artprize as a whole, one needs to know the difference between latent and manifest functions. Manifest functions are those that intended and recognized by the participants (Macaluso, 2016); it is the functions that are present and understood by the participants. On the other hand, are those that are not intended and not recognized (Macaluso, 2016); this deals with the hidden, underlying meanings. The problem with both of these is that they are dysfunctional consequences, meaning that they cause disruptions to stability (Macaluso, 2016). In this sense, it is possible to examine Artprize in terms of what it was intended and recognized as, but also in terms of how it expresses hidden meanings that often go unnoticed.…

Image 1: This image is asymmetric because elements are offset from each other and making the painting unbalanced. The composition is affected by the offset of people in the painting and the visual effect can also affect the composition. The boat is not centered and there are more people on one side of the painting than the other which also makes it asymmetric. There are more cool colors used in this painting then there is warm. I see a couple things that are red and a few that are a light yellow color, but besides that, there are all cool colors being used.…

    Suffocation Art Work

My main area of concentration for all of my art pieces was to portray the ideas of suffocation from stress. Initially, there were several concepts that I had in mind to focus on, however, I feared that I would have failed in constructing it properly. Thus, I settled with concentrating on this idea for I had various ways of representing suffocation under stress, and how it entraps one in a singular place. I hoped to create drawings that emphasized on my application of colors, which frequently alternated from black and white to the use of intense blues and browns; and my main concern was to make the viewers understand the overall meaning solely based on my graphic illustration without any additional explanation. For this reason, I had experienced…
