Aristotle once said, “ The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” This quotation means that the importance of art is to represent our past, and explain what has happened in today’s society. Art is defined by as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Art is an expression of life, which defines peoples emotions, and creations which allows many people to interpret what art means to them. Art plays a major role in artists inner thoughts and beauty which they see in there lives. Art can be a masterpiece which someone can sculpt, paint, or a form of dance. We use art to become closer with ourselves and people who are familiar with the design. Art plays a valuable role to history in creating culture and developing history for todays society to look back and reflect in our past. It shows us how to understand human experiences in the past. It also prepares us to adapt and understand what people thought, and believed. Visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art has impacted me and made me realize the importance of art with the Dipylon Vases (Terra Cotta Kraters), The Metropolitan Kouros, The Old Market Woman, and the Cubiculum from Villa in Boscoreale, and many other different forms of art in the museum.
