Color: The painting has a combination of complimentary colors that give the piece a warm look. For instance, the yellow and orange provides light to the composition and also add a visual depth to it because both colors reflect the scheme of a peaceful night. In addition, the blue in the sky beautifully portrays harmony throughout the painting, and the black in the background perfectly contrasts with the blue in the sky and the circled white brush strokes…
The painting is very dark in its subject matter as well as the painting itself.…
The contrasting and shadows in the painting give way to great detail. The creatures look alive and almost…
It is a more traditional oil painting, depicting a scene from roughly the 16th or 17th century. Many people are gathered together for an event, most dressed extravagantly in bright blues, greens, yellows, and reds. A few may be seen carrying swords in a scabbard in addition to a couple who seem like guards. At least four white tents are visible in the background, with people moving among them. One tent in particular is flying a flag, containing the colors black, red, and yellow; possibly a fictional flag.…
The first artwork that I chose was Bertel Thorvaldsen’s, Ganymede and the Eagle made between the years of 1817-1829. He finally finished the sculpture in 1829 out of marble. As I said I really admire Greek and Roman art, so this was an easy pick. The dimensions of this sculpture I would say are around height wise of 35 inches and width wise about 20.…
The action takes place outside the city in front of a large boulder, and there is a church seen in the distance. The mood of the painting is very bleak and dull. The colors used are in earthly tones, and there is a strong overall contrast of dark and light. This dramatic lighting technique can be seen in the central figure. His outstretched arms form a V line.…
Abby Jethro Art Critical Analysis Visual Arts II This is a critique of Abby Jethro’s Snowy Owl, completed in colored pencil for the class Visual arts I. The artist chose to portray a snowy owl in cropped portrait view, with only half of the owl’s head showing. Upon first impression, the work looks detailed, and as if the artist were attempting for the work to be photorealistic. The owl’s singular eye is given depth to generate an intense expression.…
Vincent van Gogh ART 1030: Intro to Art Jacob Vienna, 002 VIENNA, JACOB – VINCENT VAN GOGH Vincent van Gogh Vincent van Gogh was a post-impressionist painter who is considered to be one of the greatest Dutch painters to ever live. One thing van Gogh is known for is the emotion in his work. I chose to write this paper about van Gogh due to this. In Starry Night, van Gogh communicates his feelings of coldness and darkness in his life.…
However, the painting has a more modern meaning behind it than the viewer might…
The artist I chose to write about was Kathe Kollwitz and the art I chose from her to write about is The Widow, from War (1921-22), published in 1923. This piece is in black and white like most of Kollwitz’s pieces. The woman has her head tilted down; she looks sad and possibly depressed. Her hands are worn and rough and one can tell she has worked hard during her life. Her belly is large indicating the woman is pregnant.…
Although the shapes in the middle ground and background appear to be balanced, the colors are asymmetrical. The left side of the painting uses a lot of naturalistic colors with the brown building and the pale blue sky. The right side of the painting uses more contrasting colors. The sky, the demon, and the rocky plain are colored in using dark brown, dark red, dark blue, and black. This contrasts with the area below the demon, which is hell, that colored in with intense yellow and red.…
His shirt is a forest green and navy blue plaid patterned long sleeve flannel. From looking at the painting it is clear to see that the man is seated at a table with his elbows rested on the surface. His two frail hands are folded together and pressed against his forehead, as if he is bowing his head in prayer. Placed on the table in front of him is a loaf of bread with one end cut off, a bowl containing liquid of brown color, a knife which is right next to the bowl, a thick bible with a green cover, and laying on top of the bible is a pair of glasses folded, laying upside down. The wall beside the man is a brown color with light reflecting on it.…
The image that she painted is of a child. When looking at the bird it is evident that it is searching and trying to fly to freedom. The painting is very monotone and basic as it doesn’t have many colours. The colours which are used express warmer tones.…
The easy discerning of the difference concerns me because it shows how little effort people put into their beliefs. They would rather follow the status qou than admit we have rewritten history to benefit white people. Both paintings I examined depicted angels. In the fist, that was decaying, the white pigment became an inky black that was destroying the paper. This is probably where people established the idea that all of the paintings depicting people of color come from decay.…
Also, the mixture of warm colors on top combined with primary and secondary colors give the painting a delicate effect particularly the three green brush strokes as it adds even more mystery to the painting. Furthermore, the diagonal lines that shape the floor and the barriers of the bridge and the curved lines on the water make a combination of energy and endlessness at the same time because the side of where the scared looking person is, looks completely different from where the water, which is what perhaps reflects the degree of anxiety that the scared looking person was suffering in that particular…
