However, he felt homesick so he wanted to create a way to make his new hose feel like his old home. His canvas art is inspired by a snail, which carries its home on its back. His canvas design is based of the interior of his parents’ house. Moving across the country has changed his views, such as his view of personal space, which inspires his art work. He uses yearbooks and combines faces to make one face of the class, he thinks doing this over different years that the faces do not look that different and we are not all the unique. He wanted to see what they shared and what they had unique about the different faces. I think this was inspired by his schooling, because all the kids had to shave their heads and wear strict uniform rules and they were called by numbers, not names. His art work is based on his personal experience; he used dog tags to create an art piece from his time in the army. He made the dog tags in the shape of a uniform, and put a mirror on it, I think it is supposed to let the viewer see themselves in the uniform. I think this because having the silhouettes let the audience, in a way, come up with their own version of what is happening. You cannot see as much emotion in the faces of the silhouettes like you would be able to in a colored painting, so the viewer has to use some assumption of the expression and the action the silhouette might be taking. I also like that Kara includes the viewers shadow in the art, it lets them feel more connected to the story if they are included in it, and might make them view the art differently because they would react as if they were actually part of
