Although Elizabeth Fox-Genovese of Emory University claims”Kate was neither a feminist nor a suffragist”, in my own conceit, I strongly agree with the claim that Kate Chopin was a feminist author which is revealed in “The story of an hour ”. The followings are the evidence I have detected from the story.

However, comparing to males, there has far more discrimination to females since patriarchal society became mainstream in the world. Female is a symbol of weakness. Female can do nothing but staying at home doing housework. What’s worse, female is just a belonging of male. When you tease at others, you might spit out “why you are being so girly?” which seems you are playing jokes at a man but actually you discriminate women. Even females themselves accept this discrimination for granted which I have to say is just so pathetic. In fact, females can do what man do in some professions, even better, for example, the accounting profession. It shouldn’t be discrimination between genders and differences just because I am a female. Like in China, females absolutely shouldn’t be treated like goods with “expiration date”, that is, when you reach the age of 30, you become a leftover, you will be regarded as a burden to your parents and some relatives who you don’t even know about.
