Arnie's Failing Grade

Improved Essays
After reading and thinking carefully about the Unit 2 Case Study, I would rate the four characters in this way:

Responsibility for Reggie's failing grade
*****************************************
Reggie - 1 (most responsible)
Arnie - 2
Sally - 3
Prof. Lovelit - 4 (least responsible)

In my view, Reggie is most responsible for his own failing grade, due to his decision to: 1) not do the homework (reading), and 2) willfully take the essay from the internet and plagiarize. Arnie is number two on my list (in Reggie's failing grade), not because he also plagiarized, but because he was complicit in allowing his classmate to plagiarize. Arnie's response should have been to strongly remind a fellow student that plagiarism will only lead to a failing

All information required a certain "price of acquisition" for the person expressing an idea, article, book, video, song, program, etc.

As I research, I often remind myself that the "price of acquisition" in the original work of others might have been paid in research, education, skill development, interviews, relationships or a myriad of other disciplines. One of the first ways I insulate my own writing from plagiarism is to remember that I am paying my own "price" to create this intellectual property. I owe it to each individual who is informing/influencing my writing (through my research of their work) to honor their hard work in the form of citation.

In addition to professional respect and honor, here is a list of the other practical strategies I will use to ensure all forms of plagiarism in my writing and creative works:
1. Cite sources immediately as I'm researching (even if I'm not certain I'll use it for my writing).
2. Cite quotes or major ideas from my source list as I'm making my own notes and forming my own ideas.
3. Review my sources and note

The library at GCU makes everything accessable with ease, helping the student save his or her time. I have really enjoyed the writing process, and learning all the key elements such as the hook, and the thesis statement, which I have learned to be argurably the 2 most crucial elements. Good luck with your essay, looks like you have a good understanding of writing.…

In addition, she is a good student and received a congressional appointment to a national military academy. Soon after she received the news, Sheila is accused of plagiarizing a book review in an honors English class. In any school you have attended, in pretty much every grade, plagiarism is something a writer should never do under any circumstances. When reading the essay “Something Borrowed,” Malcolm Gladwell gave insight into the flaws of plagiarism that writers may not have thought about before. The first being that plagiarism is never acceptable (927). The second issue with plagiarism is recognizing the differences that can or cannot “inhibit creativity” (931). Being inspired by another person work can help and guide you to build your own ideas but simply taking their work and claiming it as yours is not okay.…

(272). When critical readers come across an argument that has been plagiarized, it makes it very obvious for them the unreliability of both the argument and, more importantly, the author. The author can no more be a convincing or reliable narrator, but instead, his argument unacceptable. Knowing about plagiarism helps critical readers and thinkers in understanding what arguments are completely unacceptable in reliability, no matter how accurate the supporting evidences might be.…

All papers need the appropriate recurring header with pagination and headings (student name, Dr. Jones, ENGL 1002, Date) and need to meet the 3 page minimum requirement. Quotations should be integrated throughout the essay to support the argument, introduced with lead-ins, and properly cited with a consist format. Remember that if there is no author, the title should be used to identify the quotation. Also, if there is no page number then n.p. should be used in the in-text citations.…

    Ranked Second-Arnie

Having read the assigned College Paper Case Study I find it hard to attribute responsibility to anyone other then Reggie himself. Reggie chose to plagiarise the online essay and would be solely responsible for the consequences of that choice. If forced to attribute a ranking to the other characters I would do so as follows: Ranked second - Arnie, the other student The reason I would rank Arnie in second place would be that Reggie probably feels that Arnie is partly to blame due to the fact that if he had not also submitted a similar paper then Reggie's fraud would have gone unnoticed. As stated above this is not a position I support but it might be a rationalisation that Reggie would use to excuse his actions.…

I struggle with using quotations and references in my work and this leads me to use very few quotes for supporting my ideas. However, I do recognize the importance of doing so. Using quotes from other pieces can help provide background information from an expert in the field or can help to further support my argument. After having read the chapter I feel as though I have a greater understanding of how to properly choose appropriate quotes for my writing.…

In Susan D. Blum’ s article “Academic Integrity and Student Plagiarism: a Question of Education, Not Ethics,” she makes an excellent analysis about the issue of plagiarism in America. She points out two different views of plagiarism in western academic community recent years, that is, either treating plagiarism as a matter of morality or as a crime. However, nether of theses two approaches are failed, because there are many factors, like friendship, can incite students to break the honor codes, and many students still choose to ignore rules governing academic integrity. Thus, she concludes that for American students, plagiarism is not an issue of ethics, instead, it reflects a big problem in education. To prevent American students to plagiarize, like what she says: “Treating academic integrity as a constellation of skills, taught largely through the long apprenticeship of higher education, is the most promising approach for getting students to follow the rules of academic citation, and the one with the least likelihood of providing a shortcut.”…
