“I am loyal to my nation, my unit, and the Soldiers that I serve. I will provide rapid and responsive support in all situations. I will be innovative, resourceful and improvise new systems of support when standard systems fail (HRC, 2016)”. These words from the Adjutant General Corps Creed explains a small part of the requirement from a Human Resource (HR) Sergeant (SGT) in the United States Army. As an HR SGT it is important to understand the responsibilities and have the dedication and drive to carry out every mission to sustain the force in the Profession of Arms.
According to Webster’s Dictionary (1989), a profession is “a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training and a formal qualification.” That can mean different things to different people, in the military this definition of the word if very form-fitting. The military sends their Soldiers through various trainings in order to keep them professionals and experts in their field. “To maintain the effectiveness of the profession, the Army tests and certifies its members to make sure each member meets the high standards of the profession; and re-certifies each professional

A great example of how important the military implements’ professionalism in everything that we do. Understanding the importance of the existence of an HR NCO and knowing how important the role that we have in the force is, plays an intricate role. The Soldiers Creed instills the core values of every Soldier in the force. “I am disciplined and mentally tough trained in my warrior tasks and drills (Task Force Warrior Ethos Team, 2003)”. According to General Martin E. Dempsey (2012), “by providing the leadership that our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen deserve they will execute beyond imagination.
