Army Personal Statement

I have always had an interest for law enforcement organizations such as Police, Military and etc. At the age of 18, I applied to the Police Academy of Amsterdam. However I never pursued it completely to see where it would bring me to. In 2011, I decided to join the Army to get a firsthand experience and said to myself if I don't like it, I could always get out after my first initial contract. Meanwhile I have reenlisted twice after my first contract and by the end of this contract I would be close to 7 years of service in the Army. Beside the responsibility that I felt as an American, I also saw the military as a great career and so far I have enjoyed the years that I have served. I was part of a Security Force Assist and Advise Team (SFAAT), assigned to an Afghan National Army (ANA) Battalion. I really enjoyed this assignment because It was a unique mission. We were advising our Afghan counterparts on variety of topics such as Logistics (S4), Intelligence (S2), Personnel (S1), Operations (S3) and etc. It required me to engage with our partners on a daily basis. I loved the fact that I was able to learn so much about their culture and how their military operates. I was able to see how their world view shapes their perspective. After completing my tour in Afghanistan, I felt that I have learned so much from both the U.S. and Afghan side. I was able to see how different pillars of our own military works and shapes the Army. I did see our strenght and where they are driven from. I was also able to see the difference between the two military and notice some of the reasons behind ANA’s shortcomings. The worst assignment in my military career is my current duty station. It is located in a remote area far from civilization. Due to its nature as a National Training Center (NTC), it has one of the worst working schedules throughout the whole year. This takes a heavy toll on the families on the base. At NTC, every month, the installation is hosting a Brigade size element from the United States Army and will train them in a simulated training environment. Therefore everyone who is assigned to this duty station, either directly or indirectly is involved in the monthly

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

The U.S. Army had been under a magnifying glass since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a result, the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff gave directives that the Commanding General of the Training and Doctrine Command lead a review of the Army as a profession from changes that had taken place since the beginning of the wars. The Army as a Profession of Arms is still not defined concretely. My perception of the Army as a Profession of Arms is that we are citizens, volunteers, trained to eliminate the enemy, and entrusted with a moral ethic and duty to serve and protect the rest of the populous of our great nation. We, as volunteers in our profession, have answered a calling that we are committed to something greater and…

When I think about military social work, my mind automatically reflect about pain, distress, and mental illness. I believe that many people who are in the military are faced with various risks due to the environment and duties that they must endure. From the movies and information that I have learned over the years, the military environment is dangerous and has many negative effects on those in the military, in addition to their families. To me, being a military social worker would mean that I am able and willing to put aside my beliefs and values in order to meet the needs of my clients.…

My Philosophy is simple, but covers a couple of points, to include providing rapid, accurate and correct S1 Support to the 2-398th Cavalry Regiment and its subordinate Troops, and to communicate consistently with Seniors, peers and subordinates. The only reason I am at the 2-398th is to support its missions by maintaining and improving unit readiness by ensuring all S1 related functions are taken care of. This cannot be accomplished of course, without providing effective, and understanding leadership to the Soldiers in the S1 section. From the most junior enlisted Soldier, to the most experienced NCO assigned to the S1, every single one is an integral part for accomplishing the mission of providing excellent S1 support. By working in coordination…

Life can often be thought of as a series of forks in the road, ever changing by the decisions we make. The decision to leave the United States Marine Corps was only bigger than the decision to join in the first place. I decided to leave the Marine Corps, first because of the inability of my senior leadership to follow laws, second because of the lack of leadership in my unit, and third because I simply wasn’t serving my country. Although leaving the corps was a difficult decision these reasons helped me to clarify and decide in the way that I did.…

You only have two choices: Army or College? For many the Army was the only option, for various reasons. Whether escaping a bad situation, didn’t perform well in school, or following in a family member’s footsteps, the Army was a way out, and was often overlooked as being a profession.
