Personal Leadership Model The military is known for building some of the best leaders in the world, in fact, some of the United States Presidents developed their leadership style while in the military. The Army’s basic training is a program that takes citizens and turns them into warriors. Part of this process is teaching and instilling into each warrior the Army’s values. The Army focuses on values because they are an important part of a leader’s character. According to Tamir, Schwarts, Cieciuch, Riediger, Torres, Scollon, and Vishkin, “Values reflect how people want to experience the world; emotions reflect how people actually experience the world” (p 67). There are four areas that a leader’s basic values interact in their lives; individual, interpersonal, organizational, and societal.
Leadership
A leader individual values are used to interpret their surroundings at the same time guiding them during their problem-solving process. The values that a person possess are a part of who they are as a result each person are unique in their own way. Honesty is an individual value test someone’s moral character. Organizational managers develop employee’s through competitions, providing training, and mentorship (Arieli, Sagiv & Cohen-Shalem, 2016). An effective leader is responsible for creating a safe work environment and an atmosphere of trust. An organizational leader builds a diverse team that is accountable for their actions and places key personnel in positions that plays to their strengths. The team members develop self-discipline and sense of pride to accomplish whatever task that is given to them to their utmost ability.
