Army Officer Career Path

Decent Essays
Shortly after joining the Rhode Island National Guard, I realized that becoming an Army Officer would be my chosen career path. During Basic Combat Training, I had the opportunity of being squad leader. I was in charge of making sure my soldier were on time, in the right place, and wearing the correct uniform. I would take the blame for any deficiencies, and I would try harder as a leader to make sure that we were up to standard for the next formation. I excelled at this challenge. Being so quiet and reserved my whole life, I was astonished at how I came out of my shell. I would rise to the challenge and would be outspoken. I did not just blend into the green at my IET training. My fellow soldiers knew that I was always willing to help.

As with most people, I joined the military to serve my country but what I enjoy most about the military is the opportunities that I have had to lead, mentor, and develop young men and women. A CPO is expected to be a leader and a role model to the junior enlisted, however, this position does not provide that opportunity. There are…

One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…

It had always been a dream of mine to enter high school and be not only a member of the dance team, but an officer or a colonel. Since I am an experienced, competitive dancer and have been dancing since I was 3, becoming a member of the team was fairly simple, but I knew becoming an officer would be a challenge. I became a member of the team my freshman year and instantly fell in love with the change of environment. When sophomore year arose, being apart of the team became tedious, but my yearning passion to become a captain continued my intense drive.…

Since starting the journey of what I want to do as my career, many options have been thought of. The one that seems like the most practical and enjoyable would be for me to join the US Army. I have not considered any other branch at the moment because I am at least a year and a half away from signing a contract. My MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) would most likely be a combat medic, or something in the medical field. The Army Rangers seems like a very good goal for me to achieve, and will require unbelievable amounts of both physical and mental challenges.…

It wasn't until I was selected to be a squad leader’s assistant through a game of Tap Out. I was too scared of messing up and being called out for my mistakes so it motivated me to take on this leadership position to the best of my abilities. The longer I stayed in the program, standing at attention, presenting arms, and marching in cadence felt like an everyday routine for me. Learning how to have discipline and executing every movement with precision seemed natural to me. I began to have this determination to become more involved in the program rather than be a simple cadet.…

All of the students were given a subject to write a paper on and we then had to present it to the class along with our fellow group members. Me being the overachiever I was at the time decided to make a power point presentation on what we were assigned and have me and my fellow group mates present it to the class. The delivery was poorly thought out and it mainly consisted of a bunch of pictures that we thought were funny at the time. Our teacher, highly unamused by our antics failed our project.…
