Background of the Problem Despite the past successes of the United States Army, adaptation of the way the Army trains is a necessity and is, therefore, ever evolving. Until the turn of the 21st century, the U.S. Army approached training and leader development as two separate programs. In 2002, the US. Army determined that combining its training program and leadership development program into one was more effective for producing competent and confident leaders. It is not known how various leadership development approaches enable the development of high performing leaders in U.S. Army organization.
