Bowie State Army ROTC Drill and Ceremony Old Guard Training In the past two years the Bowie State University Army R.O.T.C. program has played a host role for Drill competitions and training expertise from professionals within the United States Military. Drill and ceremony is a tradition within the United States Military profession, it’s a way of combining tradition to create unit cohesion. How it is done is basically “a correctly delivered command will be understood by everyone in the unit. Correct commands have a tone, cadence, snap that demand willing, correct, and immediate response.” Drill and ceremony has been passed down within the United States military from the past to the modern era of today. In The past weekend on the date of 12/10/2016, the Bowie State Army Reserve Officer Training Corp Bulldog Battalion hosted an event on Bowie State University campus where the United States Army Old guard drill team came out and provided training and guidance to the Bowie State University Army Reserve Officer Training Corp Drill team. In addition to the group training, several local high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp from, Atholton High school, Howard High School, Meade High school, North Point High School, and Largo High school and more were invited to participate in the Old Guards training exercises event which provided these cadets with in-depth training as to why the military has drill a ceremony.
