Armenian Genocide Argumentative Essay

Improved Essays
Is it normal? Has it happened so many times that it is just “Oh yeah, that was nothing”. Is it such a reality that no one is doing anything about it? Are we as humans being too stubborn, sensitive, and argumentative with each other that causes such damage to lives just because of one pathetic difference? Accuse someone because of their stereotypical race? Murder others because they don’t have the exact beliefs as you do? Is that our world today? Is that what our world has turned into? What in the world are we as humans doing?! It is absolutely ridiculous that we can’t bring peace to our world!
There was one unfortunate event in history that really stuck out at me. That really made me think, Oh my God! Why?! It is crazy that the 100 year “aniversary” of it is coming up this April. And even crazier that it came up two times in less than ten years (1915-1918 and 1920-1923 (DoSomething.org). The amount of hate that was in this was sickening. Even though it wasn’t as bad as the Holocaust was years later, it still is comparable to others. Yes, the Armenian Genocide was this tragic time in history that Armenians and Turks were killed

Whoa! Stop there! How would they of had the audacity to even think about doing that?! Anyway, they kicked it off by taking 300 Armenian leaders, professionals etc. and deporting them from Armenia and Anatolia to Syria and killing them. They also they slaughtered 5,000 minorities from their homes and off the streets (Dosomething.org). It was officially declared a genocide on April 24th that first year. To be clear with you it was a just a disconnection between the Christian Armenians vs. their Islamic government (Prezi, Ethan Moseley). It would be just like the US government sent their army troops to kill all of their christian citizens. Sounds like the best thing that would ever happen right?

The Armenian Genocide and Cambodian Genocide occurred at two very different times, but there are connections between the two that make them comparable. During the seven years of this destructive genocide nearly one point five million Armenians were dead or removed from the country, yet the Turkish government today does not acknowledge the genocide happening. What happened during the Armenian genocide still today affects those who survived that horrific experience and even the family members of those victims who didn’t make it through and of those who did survive the genocide. The reason for the genocide was that the Ottomans believed that the Armenians were a problem in Turkey ands they needed to get rid of them in order to save Turkey and also because they were non-Muslim and believed them to be second-level and this is what led to the mass murder for those millions of Armenians. One of the many reasons the Ottomans wanted to get rid of the Armenians was because they believed that the only way to save the Turkish state was to minimize the Christian population, which were the Armenians. Also, because they felt that these non-Muslim Armenians created the decline of the Ottoman Empire and the internal demographic and economic pressures. Also, they believed that those who were non-Muslim were second-level meaning below them and felt as if they weren’t any good because their beliefs were different from theirs.…

When the Turks felt their power being tested by the Armenians, they took military action against them. The Turks believe what was done was understandable and necessary to protect the state’s survival from the rebellious Armenians in a time of war. Those on the Armenian’s side say that the huge deportations and massacres of the unthreatening, peaceful Armenian people by the unrelenting Turks should be considered genocide. Those in favor of the Turks are mostly from the Turkish State and also include some historians. Many deniers of the genocide will blame the Armenians, saying: (Suny 932).…

Dictionary.com defines “Genocide” as “the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.” Over the past century the world was unfortunate to witness genocides such as the Holocaust conducted by the Nazis in Germany which as one Wikipedia article states, “some six million European Jews were killed” and the genocide in Rwanda against the Tutsi by the Hutu where over eight hundred thousand Tutsi’s were slaughtered because they supported a different political party, therefore, from these two examples it is accurate to claim the atrocities done towards the Native populations by the Spanish as genocide because millions of the Natives populations were intentionally massacred, for they were inferior in religion, cultural and racial settings according to the Spanish. Bartholomew de las Casas was a Bishop who got to witness firsthand the mass murderers which was conducted…
