Armada Symbolism

The book I read was Armada by Earnest Cline, and I created a list of songs that could compliment the books aspects. The songs I chose were “Walking On the Moon” for the setting, “Holding Out for a Hero” for the main character, “It’s the End of the World” for the conflict, “What’s Really Happening” for the Climax, “One Vision” for the resolution, “Beds are Burning” for the symbolism, and “Imagine” for the theme. I chose the song “Walking on the Moon” by The Police to represent the setting of my book because the main character, Zach, actually does walk on the moon. The setting of the story is not just the moon though. It takes place in the year 2018 in Beaverton, Oregon for the beginning of the story. The next good portion of the story takes …show more content…
One is Zach Lightman who is the main hero of the story. I chose the song “Holding Out for a Hero” because of the fact that Zach is a hero by the end of the book. Zach is gamer who plays the game armada a lot and is the sixth best player in the world. I think he is a very dynamic character because he goes from barely passing school to saving the world. There are many other characters in the book too, but Zach’s dad Xavier Lightman is the most important of them. Zach’s dad is very mysterious because he is “dead” for half of the book. He faked his death so he could be part of the Earth Defense Alliance and protect the world right when Zach was born. Although not many of their physical characteristics are shared, it is said that Zach and his dad, Xavier, look almost …show more content…
I chose this song because Zach questions his father and wonders what is really happening with the alien invasion. Zach and his father think there are too many coincidences that don’t make sense. The climax of the story is when Zach starts to believe his father and realizes what he and his friends have to do which is to not kill the alien race.
The resolution is the most intense part of the book and while Zach is fighting his final battle he listens to the song “One Vision” by Queen. I chose this song, not only because it was playing when Zach saved the world, but because its lyrics represent what happened as well. In the song, it talks about there being one man and his one vision just like Zach has one vision to save the world. He is also by himself at that point so he is literally one man with one vision. The book ends with Zach stopping the destruction of the alien’s home planet, and, therefore, stopping the destruction of Earth as

The title of this song fits perfectly for the reason of the important time in the book. The reason I picked this song is because Percy and his friends got to keep their heads up and win the battle. In the last book they didn't do that. Now they have a fresh start to keep their heads up and battle. Percy was stabbed and he kept his head up and got away.…

I am able to relate three songs to different characters in these books. First, Lily, the main character in The Cellar is a strong, and independent teenager. The song “Fight Song” correlates to her personality. After being locked in a cellar for six years she still does not give up her hope in finding her way out.…

My Personal Playlist and Transcendental Justification Icarus, Bastille, 2011 I personally love this song simply because of the Greek Mythology reference, as well as the really cool entrance; and I think that transcendentalists might like it as well. My interpretation of this song is that it is talking about how young people search for happiness by doing dangerous and risky things (i.e. Icarus got excited and flew up towards the sun), that may lead to them getting hurt (the sun melting the wax off of Icarus’s wings and him falling to his death. Transcendentalists would like this interpretation, because they believe that although people try to bring happiness into their lives by relying on material things (ex. Drugs and Alcohol), this will never…

Foreword Before delving into the prescribed analysis as required by this assignment, I feel it necessary to provide some background as to why I chose this song as I could have seemingly chosen any other just as easily; however, throughout my troubled years, I found myself frequenting not only this song, but the entire album as well. In my younger years, back when i enjoyed the company of my older siblings on a daily basis before their departure to college, we all struggled in our dealings with our alcoholic, emotionally abusive father. Ironically, the broken bonds shared between my father, my siblings and I initiated the bittersweet genesis of the unbreakable bonds I am so lucky to share with each of my siblings. None, however, compare to the relationship my brother and I kindled out of the ashes of our house’s burnt and broken foundation.…

The first song I selected to be on Philip’s Playlist is Be Here Long by NeedtoBreathe. I chose this song because I believe that it represents how Philip feels about losing his dad, specifically with the lyric “I’m swimming in the grief and there’s no anchor that could hold me down” Philip is at the age where he’s old enough to understand what happened to his dad, but not old enough to properly cope with it, feeling that his dad left him here. This is shown by the lyric “I’m still here and I’m missing you”. This song describes missing someone and having to deal with it, which is the situation Philip is currently in at the very beginning of the book.…

and George Weiss symbolically connected the colors of nature to the colors of mankind. This powerful theme of the song worked to send a message of acceptance for all races despite their skin colors, and I personally take that message to the heart. There’s an optimistic tone to the song with lines like “I see babies crying, I watch them grow”, this gives off a sense of serenity and hopeful view of the future. This is also why I chose this particular piece, the songwriters’ and I share the same sentiment of opposing pessimism and proclaiming a brighter tomorrow.…

For the song I choose three parts from the book. The parts include when Loung had memories of when she was little and was forced to leave her home, when Keav dies and Loung misses her, and finally when Loung loses her mother. Loung and her family were enjoying their time until the soldiers came and made them leave everything behind and leaving behind happiness, and their rich lives. Loung and her siblings were playing and their mother and father were packing and everyone’s smiles turned into frowns. “Not a day goes by / I’m always asking why” (Daughtry).…

First, in the song, the central line of the second verse is “I got a song”, which can thoroughly act to symbolize Equality and his expression of feelings that he feels throughout the story, which in the book are in the form of writing. Also, such a line can express his desire to relive and recreate the Unmentionable Times, and he lives it after creating a reinvention of the light bulb. Further in the song, Croce sings, “I’m goin’ to carry it [his “song] with me and I’ll sing it loud; if it gets me nowhere, I’ll go there proud” and “and I’m gonna go there free.” These can also represent the same theme as “I got a song” because it mentions that Equality is entitled to have his own thoughts and if he doesn’t state his opinion properly, he is optimistic, and regardless of the circumstances, he will not rely on the government, even if Collective 0-0009 states that his box “must be destroyed” (74) and there is a threat he will be lashed “‘till there is nothing left under the lashes” (72) or delivered “to the World Council itself and let their will be done” (72). Here the government is placing threats to Equality, but he is not derailed by any of them, similar to how Croce sings that he is not going to let anybody stop him from expressing his individualism.…

The media perceives Taylor Swift as nothing more than a clingy, manipulative, and crazy young woman who jumps from relationship to relationship. Being the lyrical genius she is, Swift created the song "Blank Space" in 2014 to defend her position with this preconceived notion. She uses many rhetorical devices to explain her position in this argument against the media. With the beneficial use of rhetorical devices, Taylor Swift shows that boys will only stay if it is worth a fight, and that she is fully conscious of the media representation.…

This song talks about the speaker who is abused by her boyfriend but she stands by him because she loves him. This is similar to when we find out that Mayella was abused by her father but still loves him because well, it’s her father. They both show unhealthy relationships and how bad things can be at home. The mood in both of this song and the book is desperate. They are both desperate for love and will do anything to stay by their family/man.…

Throughout the course of the semester we have learned about so many artists, and the transitions to different music genres. We have seen how music has grown throughout the years, and how artists use their songs to express their feelings, and their concerns over issues. As the years have progressed, we have seen how artists have become more vocal on issues that are have been occurring in the United States. One of the main points in history that we have seen in this course, in my opinion, has been the Civil Rights Movement. One of the artists that without a doubt stood out to me the most, was James Brown.…
