The body cannot function without the soul because the soul directs the natural body with the sense of direction. Aristotle does not classify people or animals by genders, disabilities, or illnesses. Everyone is categorized into either of the three groups human beings, animals, or plants. Without a soul he believes a body has no function because the soul directs the body and together they are capable of living. Once the body dies the soul also dies and life terminates as opposed to Plato, who believes the soul can live on after the body dies. From a religious perspective I personally believe humans have a mortal body, but an immortal soul. Aristotle did not take into account that religion conflicts with his theory of the soul. For example some religions believe in an after life or in reincarnation therefore, the soul would not be mortal to many religions. Certainly the body decays as it stops growing and nourishing it simply dies after a period of time, but many understand that the body is mortal because it cannot live eternally, this is scientifically
