Aristotle’s concepts of “character” and “habit” In this chapter Aristotle defines character and habit. Like Aristotle’s philosophy that virtue leads to wisdom, He also believes that habit develops character. He describes habits and what it is, what it means, and what it leads to. He also describes character, and how its sculpted. He shows us character and habit in a new light, he shows us how to see differently.
Character is all us, our traits, behaviors, habits, and likes. We all have unique characters each with its own vibe. Thanks to character we can predict how someone will behave, what their capacities, potentials, are so on. Characteristics are capacities, sculpted by behavior habit. Alertness is the act of being alert, aware of your soundings, aware of the situation, aware of what you know and what you don’t. Alertness provides resources “sources” so you can better have a right response. being informed provides knowledge on a particular subject. Being informed is critical to making good decisions. Informed decisions are good decisions, being uninformed is dangerous. It’s a back door that allows people not only to take advantage, but to drive, and scare you in the wrong direction. Take children’s cereal for example, you see an ad featuring a colorful cereal box, it has a health choice sticker on the top, and the people eating it look and do active things. Informing yourself by looking in the back of the box to see the nutrition label, you find that its not healthy for your kids at all, in fact it’s almost pure sugar. being informed reduces the possibility of you becoming a pun in someone game, and while you may still be taken advantage of, you will at least know. Alertness, and being informed are like glasses that let you see what is going on, be it in yourself, your family, your state, or your world, knowledge is power being uneducated, will never play in your favor. Which is why I plan on maintain and strengthening this trait by informing
