Friendships of Ari

In the story Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz Ari creates and strengthens friendships. Ari was able to create and strengthen relationships by handling problems that he encountered. Some of the problems that Ari faced in his relationships was communication and trust. Ari encountered many relationships that were not always healthy in the story, the problems in Ari’s relationships helped him become acceptive of himself and others, many young adults need to learn how to communicate to solve problems.
Ari shows a strong relationship with Dante, but Ari sometimes becomes upset with Dante. After Dante leaves for Chicago, Ari finds himself missing the company of Dante. Ari’s sadness turned into anger after Dante wrote Ari about all of

Ari was aware of Gina and Suzie before the first day of school. When approached continuously by the two girls, Ari wanted nothing to do with them. Ari stated “I wanted to buy a t-shirt that said I am unknowable. But that would have only made Gina ask more questions” (Saenz 161). Ari clearly shows that he is uninterested with becoming friends with the girls. Even though both girls were annoying and noisy, they were also kind and gave Ari a couple new friends. Even though Ari showed little companionship towards Gina and Suzie, both girls kept on talking to Ari and visiting him at work with frequency. One day Gina and Suzie asked Dante to come to a party “Gina and Suzie smiled…. We came to invite you to a party…. I don’t know why I said yes” (Saenz 216). Ari learned to accepts Gina and Suzie as friends. Ari felt lonely and separated from everyone else without Dante. Ari realized that he enjoyed the company of the girls because he was lonely and they made him feel better.
