Ariel is a mermaid and the daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. She is sixteen years old and the youngest of seven daughters. She seems to have a passion for collecting items, especially human objects. She is very curious and spends much time wandering and exploring with her friend Flounder, a yellow fish. She also is rebellious like many teenagers and she disobeys her father and Sebastian, a crustacean and her fathers advisor who watches over Ariel. Due to her rebellious and curious nature, she tends to get into trouble and dangerous situations.

The hoarding is not attributable to another medical condition (e.g., brain injury, cerebrovascular disease, Prader-Willi syndrome). The movie The Little Mermaid does not show that Ariel has any other medical conditions. She is not injured in any way besides the loss of her voice which was traded for human legs.
