Ariana Grande's Song: Side To Side

Decent Essays
The Ariana Grande's missabe song “Side to Side” along with her VMA performance was very troubling to obtain myself from rolling my eyes and had me cringing after the second line. “Side to Side” comes from her latest album Dangerous Woman that dropped May 20th and has reached 31 on billboard 100 this month. This song deserves to be at the very bottom better not not ever. This song has so much confusion with the beat her song was a mix between reggae and pop the only thought I was having was Pick a genre! It sounds As if she has an ongoing battle between what genre she wants. And Nicki Minaj makes the song ten times more confusing . The song is about her doing vulgar doings towards her latest conquest of the night. And quite frankly why?

In the second stanza, it says “remember if you lie down with dogs, you’ll come up with fleas, and no man will buy a cow if he gets the milk for free” (5-6). Meaning guys don’t want a dirty girl if they know they can get someone else that isn’t with any “fleas” meaning sexual diseases. Society targets dirty girls harsher than dirty guys. Oftentimes, girls make one bad mistake and from that moment, later on, they are called hoes, sluts or easy to get. However, for dirty guys, it’s not seen as bad and forgiven in a much linear way.…

Some sections of the song, such as the bridge, were removed from the cover version. What most influences the misogynistic tone of the original lyrics is probably simply the fact that they are being sung by a woman, which means that the “I” in the song is very different in the cover. The cover lyrics emphasize the equality of the sexes, or in Lauper’s own words, mean that “girls want to have the same damn experience that any man could have.” With a change in the subject of the song and the perspective with which it is sung, the appeal of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” changes. While the potential audience of the original demo can only be surmised, it would definitely have been very different from the audience of the cover version, which, at the time of the release, mostly consisted of teenage girls.…

This essay examines how race and gender are portrayed in a music video Anaconda by Nicki Minaj from 2014. The issue of representation of the Black community and women is significant, considering a huge impact hip-hop culture has on young people’s perception of social matters (Emerson, 2002, p. 115). Minaj is an influential figure in popular culture - her album The Pinkprint, which is supported by the single Anaconda, debuted at number one on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as well as a number two on the US Billboard 200 chart (Caulfield, 2014; Mendizabal, 2014). Additionally, the music video for Anaconda has over 500 million views on official Nicki Minaj’s YouTube page.…

Should a single aspect of our appearance, define who we are as a person? India Arie passionately disagrees, as is expressed in her hit song “I Am Not My Hair.” The idea of ethnic profiling has been played out through generations, however, by the last decades or so, it has been key to shaping the morale and the mentality of young adults who become consumed with insecurities and stereotypical paradigms. Her laudable critique of this needless trend has expanded beyond the boundaries of a hit song, it has motivated and inspired a wide range of audiences, because not only does it state a known issue, it also explains the flaws within it, and even goes on to give examples of real people, such as Melissa Etheridge, a rock centered singer and songwriter…

It is known throughout many communities that Latinos and Latinos are very zenophobic when it comes toward sexuality and gender roles. This feeling that comes to money of Spanish descent carried the same fears and disgusts due to the conditioning that was applied to them by their forefathers and foremothers. To help explain these reasons this essay will use Ramòn A. Gutierrez’s “A History of Latina/o Sexualities”, Robert Courtney Smith 's “Gender Strategies, Settlement, and Transnational Life In The First Generation”, and lastly Lorena Garcia 's’ “She Old School Like That”. The songs “Double Dare Ya” by Bikini Kill and “Feminazi” by Fea have many parallels but also contain varying ideals. Both songs are overall about the topic of feminism and women's rights but each song approaches the topic differently. The songs both use a combination of repetition, feminist language, and a sense of equality to get their message across. Even though each song and band fit under the riot girl genre they take different approaches to addressing the feminist topic and stance.…

In J.Coles “She Knows” he uses a juvenile young man to demonstrate the life of a average suburban family and the struggles they go through. By looking at the the two scenes spoken about in this essay, we can see what exactly J.Cole means in his title “She Knows”, which most viewers don’t see; this is important because J.Cole changes the meaning of “She Knows” through the entire music video. The first important scene starts with the young man being dropped off by his mother and father on his way to school. This scene is significant because previously before the young man left the house he stole money from his parents and the young mans mother gazes at him in the car as if she knew what exactly he had done. The second important scene starts with…

Gender issues and separations have been a major disadvantage to women all over the world from years past and even some today. Women were not and or still not treated equally to men and we discriminated against them just because of being a different sex. In America, women were not even allowed to vote until 1918. Even slaves were treated equally much sooner before women were. Luckily, today in the United States, women are allowed to vote and are able to have the same rights as men, but there are theories of men getting paid more than women because of being a different gender.…

If my life was a television show or a movie, the theme song I would chose would be “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift. I chose this song because I feel like it best describes my attitude towards life and situations. The first impression I would want the audience to make about me would be that I have a happy spirit and I try to always stay positive and not let things bother me. I want people to see that although bad things can happen, it’s your attitude that gets you through and makes it better. I always say, the better the attitude, the better the situation.…
