With each change in direction or speed they had to take notice, even if it was by 10 degrees to the South it mattered. Though it was hard to keep track of the speed the Traverse Board was simple to use. The Traverse Board was really straightforward to use so even people with a lower education could use it easily. The translation that seems to make the most sense is “overconfidence”, which is an ambiguous term because it can be seen in both positive and negative light, though we it comes to Birhtnoth yielding ground to the Vikings I believe his overconfidence should be seen in a positive light. Even though he possesses the ability to slowly kill the Vikings one by one if they attempt to cross the bridge, he decides that fighting a fair battle is worth more to him than whether he wins or looses. This is demonstrated when Birhtnoth decides to allow the Vikings cross and says, “Now the way is laid open for you. Come straightway to us, as men to battle. God alone knows which of us may be master of the field” (91-93).…

In a study by Douglas (2009), fifty-four percent of false killer whales encountered were seen more than once, and thirty-three percent in multiple years. Some sighting histories spanned up to eighteen years (Douglas, et al., 2009). Fidelity is even higher in Hawaii where 76.8% of false killer whale sightings were repeat sightings (Culik, 2010). Migration of false killer whales is not well documented, but similar species move from warmer southern waters in the winter to cooler northern waters in the summer; this could be related to prey distribution (Culik,…

Viking Claim Feudalism, the political system that was to dominate Europe for centries. If it wasn’t for the Vikings and their attacks and raids in the battle of Hastings, English wouldn’t be the same as it is today and French culture wouldn't be blended the same way it is today. Vikings had the biggest influence on everything. Although the kings didn’t help during the time when the Vikings attacked, they are still at the top of the feudal society but powerful nobles became lords of the local land and were responsible for making the feudal system work. .…

While few written records were left behind by the Indo-Europeans for historians to work with, recent archeological discoveries have uncovered a wealth of information about the development of Viking civilization. With the expansion of archeological research on land and water, researchers have gained an even more valuable insight into the Viking’s development and explorations. After reading Gwyn Jones’s narrative, “A History of the Vikings”, I found the Viking culture and level of sophistication rather fascinating in regards to their influence on the world. The history of the Viking civilization lasted less than three hundred years; however, during that time they traveled everywhere from Persia to Central Asia and even the shores of North America.…

Throughout the course of history the Vikings have been characterized by historians and the very people who encountered them as savages, barbarians, and thieves.
