The Congress appointed a "Committee of Five", consisting of John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York, and Roger Sherman of Connecticut, to draft a Declaration. They created the Declaration of Independence to declare independence from Great Britain. This document has certain principles. These included 1. All people are equal, 2. All people have basic rights that can’t be taken away, 3. The government gets its power to make decisions and protect rights for the people, and 4. When the government doesn’t protect the rights of the people the people have the right to change or remove the government. The current United States government is not upholding the principles of the Declaration of Independence. One of my reasons is, the NFL protesting situation where football players are making peaceful protest and Donald Trump is calling them rude names this definitely not on board with the …show more content…
According to the Declaration of Independence “ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” this quote says all people are equal, but then if the Declaration says that then why is Donald Trump treating Mexicans as if they were monsters invading our world. Immigrants are living in the shadow trying to find communities they can call home, but with Trump wanting to build a wall and saying no illegal immigrants it hard. They just want to be with their family without fear of separation or deportation. If all men are created equal then why is Trump kicking out people equal to us, him? It’s because he doesn’t believe they’re equal to him and that him and other American citizens are better. So tell me how that’s upholding the first principle/ the Declaration of Independence, exactly it’s
