Arguments Against Skeptics

Decent Essays
John you are absolutely correct when you say one of the main arguments by skeptics is that we do not have any original manuscripts. I discussed this argument in my post as well I feel people would believe and trust the book of the Bible if the original manuscripts were visible. People truly believe what they can see or prove. I have also had challenges believing if certain things written in the Bible are true. In order to believe and understand the Gospel it means having faith and believing in the word of God. Let’s continue to spread the word about Christ and help others understand the Gospel. I look forward to an awesome semester with you.

Why do Secularists deny God’s existence? The word secularism comes from the Latin word "saecularis" meaning worldly or earthly. The belief in Secularism is that most secularists have the view that the mind is more powerful than God. Since secularism is without God, it leaves man with no purpose of personal guilt before the existence of God.…

On the last week of July, I completed my sophomore service as a volunteer at a Vacation Bible School at a local church. I had gone to the Bible School ever since I was seven but I aged out and decided to become a volunteer. At the Vacation Bible School, the service I preformed was to help the kids and take them to their activities as well as introduce them to Christ. Before the Bible School started, I was nervous and excited to talk to 11 and 12 years old about Christ.…

During our time in the world, Christians often find themselves in close contact with skeptics- agnostics, atheists, or those people who simply don’t care about a spiritual life, who all have their own reasons to distrust the church and the Bible as a whole. The questions these people pose are not simple ones, not questions that can be answered by a simple “John 3:16” or a “Jeremiah 29:11.” How then should we, as a part of the body of Christ, react to and answer those people who desire more intellectual evidence than the common Christian idioms that are passed around in church? This question is given an answer in Dr. Gregory Boyd’s book, Letters From A Skeptic.…

Hey Leelia, I really enjoyed reading your thread, especially the way you included your personal experiences. I would have to agree with you that it is very hard explaining to a non-believer that the Bible is inerrant, and a lot of times we do not know where to start. I have found that if you ask a person why they truly feel the way that they do first, then it will give you a better understanding of why that person feels the way that they do. Then, from there you will be able to explain to them why the Bible is inerrant, based off their perspective. I pray that God will continue to bless you in this 8 week course with a fresh understanding of his will, and purpose in your…

I chose the topic of challenging pseudoscience as it helps to challenge misconceptions and allows critical thinking by checking the evidence to battle against false assumptions. The limited research and studies show that belief in pseudoscience remains new territory. This makes it relevant to expand the research in this field. I feel this is important to keep current and provide accurate information that is supported by evidence, not pseudoscience.…

People who believe in the Bible go off simply their faith, however, a good amount of people cannot do that. They need evidence. The way they could receive it is whether or not they choose to follow God’s word. Another influencing factor might be the personal relationship with God. God decided to create man.…

In order to uncover unknown information from an ancient civilization, archeologists usually do extensive digging and research in a specified area; however, to uncover truths about Jesus Christ, there was no removal of dirt, as the world 's most sold book was dug into. Although Christianity continues to be the most popular religion, scholars came together in a Seminar, seeking to find the provable truth, which leads to unpopular conclusions. Throughout the article entitled, The Gospel Truth? by David Van Biema, the question of Jesus and the two lenses through which we see him, faith and history, are explored, conclusions are made, and reactions are instant. Instead of believing by faith and tradition, the Jesus Seminar is an attempt to identify…

Throughout the history of church there have always been questions about the reliability of the canon (books of the Bible.) Some people believe there should be more books added to the canon (apocrypha) while others believe that certain books be stripped away from the canon. I have prepared myself to have a personal conversation about the authority that establishes the canon. Here are three questions that could arise when having a personal conversation about the canon: 1. Who determines which books make it into the Bible and which books do not make it into the Bible?…

The Bible is one of the oldest pieces of literature that exists. It has been written and rewritten in many different languages, with each translation having its own mistakes and contradictions. Not only could some argue that the Bible has been lost in translation, but it does not help that it was also written by many different authors. There is not just one source of the Bible but many. All of these facts bring into question the reliability of the Bible.…

Dexter Sommerfeldt Dr. Alexander Phil 366 11 December 2015 Vogel on the Refutation of Skepticism In the essay “The Refutation of Skepticism,” we see author Jonathon Vogel attempt to deny any skeptic claims about the external world. In its most simple form, his argument claims that to deny skepticism would be the best explanation of the material world. For slight background information, skepticism is the epistemological view that we simple lack the ability to have knowledge of a material world; the reasoning for this will be described later. First, defining Vogel’s complex argument is a necessity, then I will be providing a critical analysis of his essay as well as provide potential objections.…
