Racial profiling has been a huge controversy in the 21st century. This topic is so controversial because in this day in age, race has been a touchy subject for a lot of people. Many different races have been affected by racial profiling from the government, the police, and even strangers. Although there have been many situations where racial profiling has backfired, there are also many people have thought that racial profiling is beneficial to finding suspects for police.
Racial profiling isn’t justified in searching for suspects. Some races have to live in fear because there is a chance that they could get arrested for something they did not do. Usually the races that are targeted are the only races targeted like African Americans and Latino. There is a database in Chicago for gangs and there is 130,000 in it. More than 90% of those people are African American or Latino (Manasseh). It doesn’t seem right that the database is a majority of only two races, especially because both races

These people think judging a person and seeing what their race is before finding out if they’re actually innocent is a better way to catch them in a crime. Some of these people might also believe in a thing called “stop and frisk”, which is when a police stops you and quickly pats you down rather than search you and your car. (Giulani) They say that doing this in New York City has brought down the reduction in crime by 85% between 1994 and 2013. This reduced the number of guns, knives, and other dangerous weapons and drugs. The only reason why people are against “stop and frisk” is because the people believe that it’s unconstitutional. They think that “stop and frisk” is an invasion of privacy, which could be true, but the Second Court of Appeals decision said that stop and frisk is constitutional and plays a critical role in saving lives
