Arguments Against Legalizing Marijuana

There are millions of people that suffer from life threatening diseases ranging from cancers to seizures. With the medical advancements that have been made in recent years, there is still a long way to go. We are getting to the point where more and more people are turning to medical cures and treatments that are more holistic. However, there are those that are against using this illegal drug because it is designated as a drug that can be abused. It should be made available to those that are able to benefit from its use as it is able to relieve pain and symptoms when other traditional medicinal methods have failed.
Marijuana is listed as a schedule I substance because of the high likelihood of abuse and is considered to be one of the most dangerous. However, there are other schedule I drugs that are closely related to reasonable curative applications (Bostwick et al., 2013). Other drugs listed along with marijuana in this capacity should have no correlation to marijuana. In fact, it should help its case because if they can be related to things that physicians use traditionally, then it should be something that is made available as an option to use. They are forced to deal with medications that temporarily relieve the symptoms which can heal them to a degree. Healing and curing are used interchangeably, but they are quite different. Curing is what is done through medical science with man-made things such as medications and treatments while healing is what is done internally to restore balance (Abbas & Ghazali, 2010). Marijuana has been shown to improve the symptoms of those that are suffering from such illnesses as cancer to those children that have epilepsy. If it is able to relieve and start the path to pain management as well as effectively cure and heal the patient, it is an obvious choice that marijuana should be provided as an alternative
