Arguments Against Legalizing Marijuana

I do agree with the government’s position on legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes because the pro’s outweigh the cons. Marijuana is one of the most popular drug used in North America other than tobacco and caffeine. There have been several studies conducted to better understand the function and effects of the drugs, the drug is also used in the medical world. There have been numerous cases of people being caught possessing and using marijuana and it affecting their criminal record which can ruin their lives for a harmless drug. There have been zero cases in total of people overdosing on the drug which can only mean that the effects are not deadly. The legalisation of a drug must be accompanied with several restrictions and legislations in order to assure that it is properly being distributed and to insure the safety of the public.
I agree with the government’s position because the liberals understand that the rules and legislations on marijuana are outdated and that the change would be for the better. Legalizing marijuana would begin to eliminate the business of illegal drug cartels and gang related violence. Usually the dealer’s that are distributing and selling marijuana are not only doing that but also committing other criminal offences which are more severe and dangerous. People would often put themselves in debt in order to get a high and if they took too long to repay their dealer’s they would either get robbed, beat up or even killed. If the government is able to control and distribute the marijuana in an organized manner these problems can be solved and taken care of.
