Arguments Against Gun Control

In English class we had to write a paper about how we need gun control and how it would affect the U.S. While I was writing the paper it was hard to argue most topics like “if guns are banned and there is a crime, you are sitting a duck waiting for the police to come save you. While if you were allowed to carry you would be able to save or help in the situation. How is banning guns going to help the innocent American people who are sitting ducks?” These kind of question got me thinking we don’t need any more gun control, we need guns to protect the American people.
Although I do agree that guns should not be allowed in an airport or plane, because if no one has a gun then no one will get hurt. I leave that to the Air Marshals who are allowed

For example cities with a handgun ban like New York, Chicago, Detroit, and DC suffer from high rates of handgun crimes. Even though drugs are banned, they are still really easy to get, the same thing will happen with guns. When a potential victim can protect himself, it makes the intruder weary. States that allow the carrying of concealed handguns had a drop in violent crimes (Bernstein). Andrew Bernstein states in his article that banning of automatic weapons won’t help the public “The brutal but inescapable truth is that laws banning automatic and semi-automatic weapons ensure two things: criminals will possess them—honest persons will not …show more content…
did statistics saying “studies indicate that firearms are used over 2.5 million a year for personal protection, and that the presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instance.” Wayne LaPierre then says “the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun (lapidos).”Guns are used 80 times generally to save the lives of honest citizens than taking lives. Out of the 2.5 million who use guns for protection, less than 8% of the time the user will kill or injure the attacker. Over 200 thousand women own a gun to defend themselves against sexual abuse (GOA). Every year a half a million Americans protect themselves with a gun away from home, concealed carry licenses are dropping crime rates across the country. The murder rate dropped by 8.5% , rapes 5%, aggravated assaults 7% and robbery 3% for the states that allow concealed firearms (GOA). “If those states not having concealed carry laws had adopted such laws in 1992, then approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and over 11,000 robberies would have been avoided yearly” think of all the lives we could of saved if we legalized concealed carry arms

Though gun control is a necessary thing, many are against stricter gun control laws. Those opposed to stricter gun control laws would state that gun control would have no effect on reducing crime (Gottieb 1991). However, according to the Huffington Post, which states that with “Higher gun violence tend to have much less stringent gun laws” (States 2013). Having gun laws that put severe restrictions on guns are unhelpful and impractical. The government can make it almost impossible to obtain a…

If concealed carry permits were allowed in gun-free zones crime could be diminished throughout The United States. "The law-abiding, not criminals, are obeying the rules. Disarming the victims simply means that the killers have less to fear" (Lott, “Bans don’t deter killers,” par. 4). Concealed carry permit holders are some of the most law-abiding people in America. More than 8.5 million Americans can legally carry concealed handguns: “They are next to us in restaurants, movie theaters and stores.…

This brings us to an example of when a person who legally had a concealed firearm was able to prevent an attempted mass shooting in Chicago, Illinois. On April 17th, 2015, an Uber driver was on his way to pick up his next customer. While waiting a stoplight, a man on the crosswalk had begun to shoot randomly at people walking across. At this time, the Uber driver who had a concealed carry permit had got out of his car and shot the man several times, saving a countless number of lives and an attempted mass shooting according to the police chief of the City of Chicago. Good samaritans like the Uber driver makes it justifiable to allow citizens to have the right to bear firearms and use it for self defense, contrary to how the government wants to tighten control over firearms even…

Research done by John R Lott Jr has shown that gun control laws do not actually prevent crime, and states that allowed concealed carry and exhibited relaxed gun control laws saw drops in crime between the years of 1977 and 1992. This shows that when citizens are allowed to carry concealed guns crime rates become lower. This demonstrates that without gun control laws or bans in place, and with citizens being allowed to carry concealed guns, the rates of violent crimes have shown a decrease. This shows my thesis is correct because it has been proven that citizens who are allowed to carry guns, do in fact use them for self defense and protection, thus scaring off criminals and preventing further crimes from being…

According to The Boston Children’s Hospital, “States with more gun laws have fewer gun related deaths” (Alcindor 1). If this is the case, many more states should have a lot more gun laws to see if the crime rates do go down. The states that have the most gun laws and also do a background check on people before buying a gun also has a decreased number of violence and crimes with guns. Eric Fleeger states, “Our research gives clear evidence that laws have a role in preventing firearms deaths” (Alcindor 1).…

William S. LaPierre from “Crime is the Basic Problem, Not Guns” claims that, “America has a crime problem, not a gun problem.” Anti-gun activists believe that by taking guns away the crime rate will drop. They believe it is too dangerous for the public especially for our children. If a new gun law were to be put in place, one that would state that guns are illegal, crime would most likely not change. People would be left defenseless against criminals.…

There are many significant issues in American politics today but none is more important to me than the debates regarding gun control. There is intense discussions from both those in favor of gun control and those opposed to it. I, admittedly, find myself sometimes sympathizing with those on both sides of the debate. Regardless which side you find yourself on there is no question that guns are extremely powerful and dangerous things which demand our attention and respect. Although I do not currently own a gun I am sure there will come a day in which I will want or need to.…

Stated by, President Obama, after the shooting in Oregon on October 1st, 2015, “We know that states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths” (“Obama”). Nevertheless, there are instances where stricter gun control laws do not greatly, if at all, decrease the rate of homicides. As great as the idea that there’s a correlation between gun control laws and a decrease in gun-related homicides may sound, it doesn’t always happen as so. What people fail to take account for is that correlation is not causation. Just because there may be an interrelationship, or correlation, between two concepts does not mean that one is necessarily going to lead to the other.…

The primary motivation behind the Second Amendment right to bear arms is for protecting one’s family and place of inhabitance. However, it remains unclear as to whether guns are really used for self-defense. Siegal et al. studies the correlation between stranger and nonstranger homicides in an effort to determine if guns are used as a means of self-defense more often than not. These studies concluded, “[o]ver the entire study period, the average proportion of firearm homicides that were committed by strangers throughout the United States was 21.9%...…

The usage of firearms for self-protection to not self-preservation proportion is 1:22.
