Arguments Against Gun Control

There are many significant issues in American politics today but none is more important to me than the debates regarding gun control. There is intense discussions from both those in favor of gun control and those opposed to it. I, admittedly, find myself sometimes sympathizing with those on both sides of the debate. Regardless which side you find yourself on there is no question that guns are extremely powerful and dangerous things which demand our attention and respect. Although I do not currently own a gun I am sure there will come a day in which I will want or need to. I say this because I am a single woman soon to be out on my own and I believe I will want protection for myself. I also am working to become a veterinarian and I understand since veterinarians routinely must carry narcotics that my chosen profession will force me into carrying a gun for protection. Said to say but true.
The debates I have heard regarding gun control focus on a few main points. These are that our existing laws need to be improved to better restrict the availability of assault type weapons, placing limits on the capacity of ammunition magazines, ensuring that through background checks occur, enforcement of a waiting period to purchase guns …show more content…
The debates regarding restrictions on the availability of assault type weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines is not important to me in that I have no need or interest in weapons which in my opinion are for military purposes only. I do however support these particular restrictions mainly due to my fear that I could become a victim to the senseless violence experienced in our nation from individuals who have taken assault type weapons and inflected mass killings as we have seen in the shooting at _____ and _____.
