GMOs are genetically modified organisms. There are lots of arguments about whether they are safe to eat or not. Most of the food we eat is GM. So are they safe to eat? Do the benefits outweigh the risks? Should they be labeled? I say yes to all three.
I think that GMOs are safe to eat. "There currently is no evidence that there are material differences or safety concerns in available bioengineered foods." (FDA and AMA) though there have been some environmental uncertainty, like what makes the plants immune to pesticides, GMOs have been proven safe to eat. Anti-GMO groups have said that altering plant enzyme levels may have unexpected affects, and they're right. But all inventions and ideas are doubted and criticized. The telephone, television,

GMO’s stands for “genetically modified organisms,” these are strands of DNA that have been modified to help benefit the plant in some form such as making the plant immune to certain diseases or to help the plant grow larger. Arguments in favor of genetically modified organisms include reasons such as the ability to use fewer pesticides because the crop has been modified to be resistant to certain insects. Another argument in favor of GMOs is that the crop is able to grow in more harsh conditions allowing a larger amount of land to be used and benefiting areas that do not have the best conditions to grow food. Increased yields is a benefit seen from introducing genetically modified crops, this is seen as beneficial because with an increased…

Finally, people worry that the genes from GMOs will spread into other crops destroying biodiversity. Only two studies out of the thousands have shown that with minimal evidence and flaws in their procedure due to improper barriers and suspicion the data was changed. The two studies were discredited and eventually dismissed by the scientific community however people still like to point to them when it fits their…

Are GMOs safe? When it comes to the topic of the safety behind GMOs, many of us will readily agree that we are uneducated on the risks and benefits they present in our bodies and to the environment. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of the advantages genetically engineering seeds and crops can have during the growing process of the crops and for the environment as well. Whereas some are convinced that this let alone is enough to be pro GMOs, others maintain that GM crops and products should be closely analyzed and examined continuously over time to find accurate data on the long term effects they can have, not only on the environment but on our bodies overall health after years of consumption and exposure to these…

With the rate at which our planets population is growing, what are we going to eat when we run out of room to plant crops, raise animals? There is always the option of genetically modified organisms or GMO’s, meats that are grown in labratories, algae, or even insects, but all of these are “temporary fixes” to the real problem. How can we sustainably survive on this planet at all if we continue down this path of over consumption? According to the Non GMO Project, GMO’s are defined as living organisms whose genetic material has been altered via genetic engineering in a laboratory (GMO Facts, 2016).…

Ali3 Many people have a huge misconception about GMOs especially GM foods that they are harmful to both the human body and the environment, but various studies have proven quite the opposite. GMOs can bring a plethora of benefits to almost every industry ranging from medical use to agricultural but is held back by a majority that believes in false accusations and unsupported studies. GMOs have the backing of almost every scientist and person who knows even a little about the subject of biotechnology yet still there is a huge opposition of mainly people who have fallen to Anti-GMO propaganda. In May 2016 the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine issued a report about GMOs saying they “found no substantiated evidence that foods from GE crops were less safe than foods from non-GE crops.”…

Genetically modified organisms also known as GMOs have been an area of hot debate over the last few years. In this article we will explore the arguments for and against GMOs and at the end dispel the fear-mongering and show that humanity has been modified organisms since the beginning of recorded human history; we are just much better and faster at it now than in the past 1,000s years. The goal in GMOs is to modify organisms (generally food stock such as livestock and extensive agriculture, plants), at the genetic level, to obtain better quality offspring. Companies such as Monsanto and other agriculture, industrial giants aim to create plants that taste better, have better nutrition qualities, are resistant to drought, pest, and other environmental…

GMOs have the potential to do multiple things. For those of you that may not know GMOS (or Genetically modified organisms) are organisms that have been created through gene splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or GE). They are a safe way to slow down pollution and use less land in crop production. GMOs also provide many health benefits, and could also be a leading cause in ending world hunger. Currently many people are opposing GMOs because GMOs are a relatively young concept, and they believe GMOs only benefit the consumer.…
