Arguments Against Drunk Drivers

Drunk drivers should be imprisoned on the first defense because drunken driving laws are not as strict as they should be. Whether you are caught right above the legal limit or triple the legal limit, you deserve to face some sort of jail time. We as a country need to be way more serious about driving under the influence. Too many innocent people die or become severely injured because of a “drunk driver” With the consequence of having to face jail time, will hopefully change someone’s decision about getting in the drivers seat. Even if one-person listens, that is still enough of a change because it could spare another’s life. Even though drunk drivers should be imprisoned on the first defense, people should not get behind the wheel after having even a sip of alcohol because to many innocent people are getting hurt or even killed and the consequences do not scare people enough.
There are plenty of consequences out there in regards to drunk driving especially in New Jersey.

If they know they are taking an even bigger risk by getting behind the wheel they will not even consider doing it. This law would influence the age group who needs this threat the most. That is newly licensed drivers up to everyone under the age of twenty-one. Being so young and not even being legal to drink alcohol would make their situation so much worse. This could ruin their whole future having been sent to jail at such a young age. Most kids in high school know they are not aloud to drink, so they think if they drive to and from the party, their parents would never suspect drinking. Now with this law, if they were to get caught not only will the parents know their child was drinking but also they will be receiving a phone call from the county jail. With this consequence in the back everyone’s mind even if they are of legal age, they will now think twice about doing
