Arguments Against Abortion

Superior Essays
When it comes to the discussion of abortion, most people want to say how it should be banned. The question whether it should be illegal or not should not even be a question to begin with. The government should not have a say whether a female can be able to give birth or not. Abortion is not just "killing babies," as over-emotive opponents want to argue about that. There should not be anti-abortion nor pro-abortion, but should only be pro-choice. Being pro-voice just gives you that option of hearing the females side of the story. Yes, the baby can have a life to live, but what about the woman? There are many circumstances as to why a female cannot give birth or needs an abortion.

In today's society, people are so naive to look into a case of abortion. What is the purpose for the abortion? Most people go straight into the argument of “it is the baby’s body, not hers”. So who is the one having the baby? Does her body not matter anymore? She is more human and alive than the egg we are talking about aborting. “Guttmacher Institute conducted a write-in survey of 1,160 women in 2004 and found 1.5 percent of abortions were reported as due to rape or incest” (Guttmacher Para 1). The women's life matters as much as the life that has not even started. Why should a female have to worry about the consequences that comes out from what happened to her. It does not matter the age, date, and time, if a girl is taken without consent and wounds up pregnant, it is and should be her right in termination of something. “There is a close parallel between the violent attack on an innocent woman that happens in a rape and the violent attack on an innocent child that happens in an abortion”(Harley Para 4). Usually, when you know two lives are at risk and only one can be saved, doctors know that they must save that life. In most cases, that being the life of the …show more content…
The phrase “you chose to do it, now you deal with the consequence” is overly played out. People are so easy to judge others without simply listening to what they have to say. We know, it is sad knowing the baby had nothing to do with it falsely being conceived, but why are we going to force a female to have a baby she clearly does not want because she obviously thought about abortion. Abortion may not be for everyone, but we need to work on helping women figure out if that is what she really wants to do. We simply just need to find a way of shifting the conflict into conversation of abortion and just listen to one another before opinions get bashed because we let our perceptions get ahold of us in a way we should not. Consider being pro-choice and especially pro-voice because we can make a change on how awful abortion is looked upon by

Why should a baby not have the chance to live simply because of the poor choices of its mother? Abortion is not a good thing and should not be tolerated. Taking the life of an innocent human being should never be accepted like it is. In the article, “This Is What Abortion Looks Like,” the author's main point is how abortion is a topic that not many people talk about and think is bad but, Wendy Davis, a Texas senator talked about it in public.…

In December of 2015, a women living in Tennessee named Anna Yocca, age 31, attempted to abort her pregnancy in her own home using a wire coat-hanger. Since the pregnancy was 24 weeks along, which is just about the limit to which an abortion will be performed by a clinic, she is being charged with the attempted murder of her unborn child. There are not many details provided in the article about any possible circumstances surrounding the case and there is hardly anything written about the mother apart from the police sergeant, Kyle Evans, bluntly saying that she tried to murder her baby. The baby, who was delivered more than 10 weeks early, was born with several issues, including a very low birth weight and damage sustained to some major organs, one of which was the heart.…

I believe that a person should have to right to do with their body what they believe is right. I don’t think that it is fair for others to try to put their nose in something that is none of their business in the first place. The mother should be in charge of her own life and her own decisions. I think that people are too quick to pass judgment on others based on their own beliefs. For these reasons, I do not think that people should be able to control others decision on the matter of…

“In the battle of rights, whose life is protected, whose rights are suspended?” (Kass). As a society we go on and on about politics and what rights we, as people, deserve. This is not just an issue of politics, but an issue of morality. When the subject comes to abortion, the immediate response is to change the subject, or to say that you don’t really have an opinion on the issue.…

Whether it’s due to financial instability, the quality of life of the potential child, or rape resulting in pregnancy, women need to be able to make the choice to save their own lives. Those who are against abortion may feel they are “saving” the life of the unborn child, but many do not realize they are impairing, or even ruining, the life of the pregnant woman. It is the legal right of every woman to decide what is best in her life, her family, and her situation; America needs to realize that it must remain this…

However, those who are thinking about going through with abortion, make their decisions off of fear of raising a child, financial stability, events which led to the pregnancy like rape, and many other factors. Whatever the reason may be, both sides, Pro-Life and Pro-Choice have been there to fight their side. The argument is abortion, the question is “who’s right”? Abortion is “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy” (cite this definition from dictionary.com), however, while this definition stands to be true, it fails to answer one important question, “who decides when life begins after conception”? Though this question is one in which is debated by many, the underlining points that shed light on why the decision of abortion is wrong are religious views, and moral codes and…

With 1.5 million American families needing to receive a child, there's no such thing as an undesirable child. An abortion can result in therapeutic complications afterward in life; the hazard of ectopic pregnancies copies and the chance of an unsuccessful labor and pelvic incendiary illness increases too. In the occasion of assault and pregnancy, legitimate therapeutic care can guarantee that a lady will not get pregnant. Abortion rebuffs the unborn child who committed no wrongdoing; instep, it is the perpetrator who ought to be punished.…

Abortion is one of the most volatile issues surrounding social and political discussion of our day. Both sides of the debate throw out facts but fail to make proper dialogue in order to better understand their opponent’s stance. The failure to listen and quickness to judge has left many bystanders of the argument confounded or many have chosen sides based on silly ideas like “I don’t want to kill babies” or “conservatives do not care about women”. The argument in the abortion debate is the mother has a right to choose…

In the U.S these are the statistics; 25% can’t afford a baby, 4% have to attend school or a career and don’t have time to care for a child, 8% lack maturity to have a child. 9% have relationship issues, 20% finished with childbearing and don’t want anymore children, 27% are not ready/poor timing, .1% have a rape baby and no longer want the baby, because of that constant reminder, 3% have mental concerns, and 4% have fatal health concerns. Each reason are different, but each are as reasonable and understandable just like other reasons. Some people don’t believe that abortion should be banned, but women who didn’t use protection should be allowed to have an abortion, but why should the right to have an abortion change for someone who believes that it’s the right choice for them? I believe that the constant banter on women getting an abortion and wanting to terminate the pregnancy is discouraging women to make that choice for themselves, because they’re letting other beliefs influence them to change their mind on getting an…

Freedom was once an ideology appreciated in every American household; remembering the true value of being free and the rights they were entitled to since the day they were born into the United States. The real question being, do people still appreciate these freedoms fought for or have Americans simply forgotten the meaning of being a part of this country along with the privileges it comes with? Americans have been continuously fighting for rights, guessing that there are still freedoms that have not been granted. It is difficult to value rights that have not been admitted by government restrictions when they are put into play, their natural born right. The purpose of America was to escape from unfair rules and cruel dictatorship, yet it seems…

Abortion has been one of the main topics in America to produce a plethora of controversy, marking the collision of two values: pro-life and pro-choice. While we know that each side produces a wide variety of points as to why each group believes what they do, we still must be omniscient about the life of the child. Someone who is pro-choice would argue that the woman has the right to her own body and what happens to it; however, taking the side of pro-choice disregards the child’s life. This seems like complete balderdash to me, almost to be noted ignorant. Abortion is wrong to me because it is considered murder, it causes psychological and emotional trauma to the mother, and it teaches people to ignore responsibility.…

Reproductive rights are the subject of extensive debate in capitol buildings and classrooms alike. In fact, just the other week, a friend and I got into a heated argument over the autonomy of a woman versus that of a fetus. My friend believes that a woman's right to make certain choices- namely abortion- end when fertilization occurs. Conversely, I'm very pro-choice for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I consider myself a feminist and as such value an individual's right to determine their own medical procedures in a higher regard than a fetus.…

This view finds abortion “impermissible even to save the mother’s life.” Imagine a woman has become pregnant and in the same day learns of a newly developed heart disease that will kill her if she carries her baby to term. The baby has a right to life, but so does the woman. Thomson brings up the argument most familiar.…
