Arguments Against Abortion

Should abortion be legal? This has been a very controversial topic of the past years. According to Marshall
Medoff, abortion is a procedure women choose to undergo to end her pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus (158). Although many people are anti­abortionist or pro­life, people who believe women shouldn’t have the right to abortions. The other side of the argument is the pro­choice side, those who believe every women deserves the right to abort an unwanted child. Many people believe that abortion is the same as murder and that it should be illegal, while others believe it is the woman’s choice and no one else should have a say. Most women that recieve abortions are victims of gender­ based violence that lead to pregnancy, including Jane Roe. “In America, specifically, the ethical perspective on abortion became highly publicized after the 1973 case Roe v. Wade, where Jane Roe affirmed to have been raped by a gang and became pregnant”( Lopez 512). Due to recent studies, some women feel abortion is their only hope after the violence and that it is the best decision. “Asked about the reason that led them to the choice of abortion, most women responded that they had made the right choice because they did not imagine carrying on an unwanted pregnancy, generated from a violent act, without their consent and their own desire” (Journal of Nursing). Women feel aborting the unwanted child due to rape is the best thing to do, instead of carrying a memory of the harsh event that happened to them.
Another reason that women should be able to have abortions is in the case where mothers are not able to provide for the child. The mother may be too young or going through a financial hardship. If the parent is forced into parenthood unprepared it’s a great chance of misfortune in the lives of the parent and the
