Arguments Against Abortion

Women have been oppressed continuously; since before the early 1800’s, they did not have the right to an education, own property or be a political figure. Women’s rights are also being impugned to this very day. They face the pro life people (who are mostly religious) who want to force them to not abort, but what these insular people fail to revise is that women have the right of freely choosing if they want to have a kid or not. Not all people are religious, so we can’t base a nationwide law on religious beliefs, because it would be violating their first amendment( which is in part, freedom of religion). If you put the pro life(abortion should be abolished) idea in context, you would realize that it would not really help the conflict, it would …show more content…
There are two procedures in which you can abort; by taking an abortion pill or by a surgical procedure. Scientists are unsure if the procedure actually physically hurt the fetus. Pro life people argue that the fetuses have rights and that their mothers can’t take their right of living away. Abortion is a crucial process but under a democratic government, the authorities have to make a wise and conductive decision. It’s either letting mothers kill fetuses that are argued to have feelings and rights, or violate the rights of women, cause disputes and disrupt our society with an idea that is not even 100% sure to be beneficial. For example, it is illegal to consume marijuana, but people have always found a way to do it anyways. So what makes pro life people think that making abortion illegal will result in a different outcome? If women are not allowed to have abortions legally, they too, will find an illegal way to do it. They could try to purposely miscarriage it by; falling on purpose, doing excessive work that they should not do, or consume drugs; such as alcohol or cigarettes. This can also result in producing deformed or affected babies. A woman could try to illegally abort, but if they fail to successfully abort, it will cause even more acrimonious outcomes, such as having deformed babies or babies with short term lives due to

There are laws in place that require parental consent in order for a minor to get an abortion, but many feel that it is not enough. They argue that the psychological consequences of having an abortion at a young age are damaging and can negatively impact a teenager’s future development, both physically and mentally. Pro-life arguers generally carry the belief that a fetus is a person upon conception, and is therefore afforded the same rights that any other citizen has. They believe that a fetus is just as human as the rest of the population and deserves to live just as much as any other person does.…

The topic of abortion has always been a controversial issue. There are, and will always be, many different views concerning the ethical acceptability, social stigma, and morality of abortion. While there had already been attempts to properly emphasize women’s civil rights in society, it wasn’t until the emergence of a case like Roe v. Wade that brought to the public eye the legal issue of a woman’s right to receive an abortion, as well as her rights as a person and citizen. Even though this case was based more on the legality and right to privacy and personal freedoms, the legal issues surrounding a woman’s right to abortion was the true start of the women’s liberation movement. The Supreme Court’s decision of Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion…

More often than not, abortion is the result of pregnancy due to rape, or the inability to support a child for any variety of reasons. Although many see it as the termination of a life, abortion needs to be an option to save the lives of women who are not able to support a child. While opposing viewers might say that abortion terminates a potential life and is dangerous, it is actually saving the life of a woman who wouldn’t be able…

Introduction Elective abortion is considered one of the most influential, controversial, and legally active areas in the field of medicine. Elective abortion is the interruption of a pregnancy before the 20th week of gestation at the woman’s request for reasons other than maternal health or fetal disease. Abortion first became legalized due to the Supreme Court ruling in the Roe vs. Wade case, which found that women as part of their constitutional right to privacy, can terminate a pregnancy during its first two trimesters. This landmark decision and controversial ruling changed the foundation of abortion within the United States, and has created the current political debate surrounding the subject. There are many arguments for and against…

People that are pro-choice believe that abortion should be kept legal because women have the right to make the choice. Since at the time of abortion, the fetus isn’t technically a baby, the pro-life views seem unreasonable to pro-choice supporters. There is a reason that the abortions are only allowed to happen within the first 24 weeks; the ‘fetus’, which is still a clump of cells at that point, can’t survive on its own outside the…

Reproductive rights are the subject of extensive debate in capitol buildings and classrooms alike. In fact, just the other week, a friend and I got into a heated argument over the autonomy of a woman versus that of a fetus. My friend believes that a woman's right to make certain choices- namely abortion- end when fertilization occurs. Conversely, I'm very pro-choice for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I consider myself a feminist and as such value an individual's right to determine their own medical procedures in a higher regard than a fetus.…

One reason abortion is a social issue is because people don’t know whether it should be either illegalized or legalized everywhere. Tom Anderson says,” if abortions become illegalized then it will have a significant impact on women and would cause society to become like the third world. ”(Anderson,3) Which he describes as a place where the population suffers from poverty, malnutrition, treatable disease, poor health care, unemployment and lastly a place where women feel little empowerment concerning their reproductive lives. (Anderson, 3).…

Abortions are most commonly done by doctors in a hospital with the proper training and equipment. But for people in places where it is not legal, women might get an illegal abortion with people that do not have the proper training or equipment. This may lead to unnecessary deaths of women. “The World Health Organization estimates that worldwide 110,000 women die and six times as many are damaged every year from badly performed illegal abortions” (“Abortion”). The article explains how damaging illegal abortions can be, an estimated 110,000 die of illegal abortions and 660,000 are damaged each year.…

There has been a long existing debate of “Pro-Life” versus “Pro-Choice” about whether or not women should be able to abort a child. Many people being Pro-Choice will use the argument that the fetus isn 't a living person, and rather that it is the woman’s body; therefore the woman’s choice. There are other options women have such as adoption: waiting until the baby is born and providing the child a well-suited family to properly care for them. I believe any way you can avoid aborting a child is better than abortion because you give the child a chance for life. An unborn child in the womb contains all of the characteristics for it to be considered living, proving abortion is morally and scientifically wrong.…

Abortions are one of the most controversial topics debated, with their being two sides: “pro-life” or “pro-choice”. Pro-life advocates argue that an abortion is a woman's right to choose, and women should be able to make decisions that involve their body and health. Pro-life advocates argue that an abortion is considered murder, with the reason being that an unborn child is living, fully human, helpless and voiceless while developing inside the womb (K, Brown). Although countless individuals feel that abortions should be a woman's right to choose, abortions should be illegal altogether because it denies and deprives the rights of life, can result in medical complications and psychological trauma for women, and because of the fact that a fetus is capable of feeling pain. TFP Student Action states since the…

This is an issue that isn’t talked about in depth and not brought up very often, especially by women who have had abortions. Understandable but one of the best ways to fight for women’s rights is to stand up and fight against laws that are stripping them away. After reading Katha Pollitt article “Come Out, Pro-Choicers!” I got a better idea of just how many people stand behind this issue and why they need to start fighting for it.…

Another topic that has been used against pro-choice supporters and abortionists is the topic of abortion being “immoral”. Pro-life supporters talk about the immorality of abortion by saying that it is the murder of babies. On the contrary, abortion is not even remotely close to murder. Murder, by definition, is the act of one human taking away the life of another human. The pregnancy is not a human yet and therefore, cannot be referred to as a human (even abortion doctors refer to the embryo as the pregnancy) which means that abortion is not equal to murder.…
