Abortion really started to take play during the women's rights movement - they wanted control over their own bodies. Before it was legalized, there were a lot of unsuccessful abortions due to the fact they were done illegally by untrained individuals. "Illegal abortions harmed women physically, increased the risks associated with future pregnancies, and even resulted in death."(Opposing viewpoints online collection). If a woman wants to get an abortion, it might as well be done by a trained professional to decrease the chances of something going wrong. This will also increase the chances of everything going right. Making abortion illegal can bring harm to many women and future children.

People that are "pro-life" tend to believe the life of the fetus begins at the moment of conception. On the opposite end of the spectrum, those that are considered "pro-choice" favor the concept that life of the fetus does not begin until birth. "Brain activity at this age is no more than a precondition - It does not demonstrate that the fetus is actually 'conscious'"(BBC). If the fetus is not actually 'conscious', is it alive? Does the brain activity matter? The point in which life is said to begin has not been established

For pro-life activists, there are two opinions. The first overwhelming opinion is that once the child is conceived, it is living. The second follows the idea of once a mother feels the child “kick,” which is around the eighth week, it is living. For pro-choice activists, scientific fact argues loudly that the fetus is absolutely “unable to sustain life outside the woman’s womb… instead an in utero fetus with the potential of becoming a child.” (Planning Parenthood)…

On average, there are 293,066 sexual assaults on women ages 12 and up every year in the United States of America. If you do the math, factor in the leap years, that comes down to about one sexual assault of a woman anywhere from the age 12 and up every 107 seconds. What if some of these sexual assaults ended in pregnancies? About 5.0% of them do, although it may not seem like much, it 's important. By no means should abortion be promoted as a product in the supermarket, however that does not mean the option should be taken away from women who suffer from sexual assaults which are unfortunately often committed domestically or by someone they know.…

Women have been oppressed continuously; since before the early 1800’s, they did not have the right to an education, own property or be a political figure. Women’s rights are also being impugned to this very day. They face the pro life people (who are mostly religious) who want to force them to not abort, but what these insular people fail to revise is that women have the right of freely choosing if they want to have a kid or not. Not all people are religious, so we can’t base a nationwide law on religious beliefs, because it would be violating their first amendment( which is in part, freedom of religion). If you put the pro life(abortion should be abolished) idea in context, you would realize that it would not really help the conflict,…
