The main fundamental difference between the two extreme groups is the status of personhood for a fetus, and many people see this difference as an area on which the “other side” is completely wrong and not one that has no clear answer. If members of these camps were to attempt to understand the motivations of the “other side,” they may even start to moderate their views and join the majority of Americans who have middle-of-the-road views of abortion. An attempt to understand the views of the opposite side instead of an outright refusal to consider it would fix much of the gridlock on contentious issues that plagues our federal
