A lot of you will think 'I want to write a book', and then think about what you want to write about. Generally speaking, I think it is better to write because you already have a story that is dying to get out. Once you have that idea, then you need to make a few decisions about how you'd like to tackle it.

What I'm about to say could be considered a paradox. A writer should hold a deep understanding of many crucial elements in crafting compelling, heartfelt writing such as structure, theme and character arcs. However, it is also important that you don't box yourself into structures, themes and character arcs. Yeah. I know.
You see, story structure, for example, is a great tool to give you a framework around which to plot your story. But it is a terrible tool around which to write your story. If your story wants to go in one direction, don't prevent it just because the story structure in your plan contradicts that. Let your work
