Where would we be without the internet? There is a wide spectrum of the various social media’s out there. From Myspace to Facebook to Twitter, after all; social media does hold the top rank for being a tremendous way to keep in contact with friends and family according to CNN. However, social media can result to anti-social behavior, poor productivity and addiction. But the real question is, has social media grown into negatively impacting our lives?

Smartphones are key in today’s society. There’s an innumerable amount of downloadable applications in the app store of iPhones, and the same goes for the Google Play store in Androids. Any individual can easily download a social media application onto their phone and voilà, they have entered the universal world of communicating online. Social media is meant to be used for people to express themselves. Whether for status updates, sharing selfies or even dreadfully trying to find a girlfriend or boyfriend. This all gives the impression of being fun, but over time it can get addicting. It’s awfully common for people to post something on their pages and constantly check the pages of other users every day. Over time, it’ll turn addicting and consume so much of our lives that it becomes a daily routine; like brushing our teeth every morning!

All in all, my final verdict is that yes; social media has changed the way people communicate for the worst. Technology will always bring about changes in dialect and written word in how we relay messages to one another. Technology has hindered human communication through an imaginary shield that covers an individual’s real self. Anti-social behavior, poor productivity and addiction occur due to social media.
