On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking in the middle of the street when they were approached by a police officer by the name of Darren Wilson. With there being altered stories explaining what happened next rather than choosing one side of the story we can agree that an altercation occurred and it led to the unfortunate death of eighteen year old Michael Brown. Because of the differing stories and videos online, I will not focus on whether I feel like the killing of Michael Brown was justified, but whether the process to indict/or not to indict Officer Darren Wilson was justified and not flawed. Beginning as soon as you read the table of contents of the DOJ report on the Ferguson Police Department…

Corey Turner remembers collecting participation trophies from the YMCA soccer program he was involved in as a young athlete. These trophies are now sitting in a dusty box somewhere in his parent's basement. This leads him to question whether or not young athletes should receive trophies for just showing up. Corey Turner is not alone, people across the nation have debated this issue for as long as youth sports have been in existence. I believe that kids should not get trophies for participating because kids should learn life lessons from both wins and losses and participation trophies do more harm than good.…

Winnit wanted to put up a statue to show his religion, but he put it right in front of another religious statue. Official take it down thus making Winnit mad, so he files a lawsuit demanding to put it back up. The District court ruled in favor of the officials saying that it wasn’t a violation of freedom of exercise of religion, and if the troll was kept would act as government speech, which is a violation of the First Amendment. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed with both the District and eventually the Supreme Court. I have a dissenting opinion with the majority with the Supreme Court.…

Every time my family goes to my grandparents house, I’ll always see this little make-shift shack made out of ply-wood and crates and barrels. The crazy thing is that there’s always someone stopped and buying some homegrown authentic farm food. Makes me wonder what’s the difference between that and what we sell in the grocery store. Even these strangers know the difference between authentic and processed. Although book characters aren't the same as vegetables and pumpkins, they do have an obvious difference between authentic and phony.…

However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…

An Eye for an Eye When turning on the television, radio, or simply opening the local newspaper, news of arrests, murders, kidnappings, rape, and other such tragedies bombard people. Rarely is there an occasion where people can go throughout a day in this world without hearing of these events.
