Odierno states, “If you can meet the standards we’ve established, then you should be able to perform in that position, and that’s where we are headed.” In other words, Odierno asserts that even though you are a woman and want to go into combat forces, if you can meet the standards that have been established you are more than likely able to get into the combat position you’d like. Despite the fact that women should stay at home and fulfill their family needs, women have the right to choose whether or not to be in military forces because standards can be met and gender is nothing but an immutable characteristic.

Since they have been in military positions for a long time, they might have an inclination, or a simple feeling, of wanting military enhancement. For example, in World War 1 and World War II, women joined military positions to serve as coast guards and some served as military nurses. The first world war marked the first time in the U.S. that women were allowed to enlist in the Navy and Marine Corps. Because the participation of women in World War 1 was successful, it increased the roles for American Women and the acceptance into service in the U.S. Armed Forces. During the second world war, 350,000 women joined the armed forces, and 200 women worked in non-combatant jobs. According to statistics, women women have been developing well. As claimed by Odierno, “Women have been steadily moving into previously all-male jobs across the military…” In arguing this claim, Odierno certainly agrees that women have been in military positions, and that there is a most certain possibility that they can evolve into higher quality combat
