From drinking, to driving, fighting in the military, watching an rated R-movie, and getting married, determining adulthood in America was frequently asked the question “when do kids become adults.” been frequently asked. There are numerous thoughts and ideas of when kids become adults. Throughout history, teens have shown lack of maturity into adolescence. This has been the cause of restrictions, such as voting age restrictions, driving license, and child labor laws. Many believe that a teen should be considered an adult is 18. This is considerably ridiculous and lacks much evidence. Terens should not become an adult, until they reached the age of 25 because maturity and understanding are not widely encountered within teen until this age. I believe that …show more content…
People should expect you to be an adult at age 21. Then, at that age, all adult rules should apply to you. I think that being an adult or child should be based on age. Everyone grows and matures at different rates and at different ages. I don’t think people should be considered adults at a set age. I personally think I am more mature and adult that many of the kids I go to school with, but I also know I am not completely developed and mature yet. I believe that age of majority should be based on brain science, and not politics. Becoming an adult is not something that just instantaneously occurs the second you hit a certain age. It is most definitely a process and a maturity issue. I believe that restrictions for different subjects should be lifted at different ages, but in a more logical way. They should happen in a sequence so that the more maturity required, the higher the age at which the privilege is received. Using this method, the transition to adulthood would actually be a transition, not just a title granted at a certain age. I don’t think it’s necessary to define “adulthood.”

Do my parents not constitute as being mature because they didn't go to college? What happens to the low income families who can't afford to pay their tuition? What people must understand is that a myriad of people, especially in today's society can't fit into these five categories because they are not able to or maybe they just don't want to. If a person chooses not to get married for whatever reason, does that constitute his or hers level of maturity? The problem with these milestones in society are that they are no longer as relevant as they use to be.…

However, by the time an adolescence reaches about 16, they should fully understand their actions. Personally, I think if a juvenile is not old enough to vote or move out of their family’s homes, then they should not be held accountable as an adult. How can the state say they are not legally an adult by law, but hold them accountable as an adult in courts eye. Therefore, I think a child should be held completely accountable for their actions after they turn 18, prior to that they should…

There are many different opinions on the age of responsibility and adulthood. In Alan Greenblatts article, “What is the Age of Responsibility?”, he discusses how people often think 18 is too young to be considered an adult but yet there are many contradictions against the claim. With so many factos influencing what people think maturaity means, people should be considered adults at 18 because that is when teens start experiencing adult things and start making real life decisons. The age of maturity should be measured not by age but by the persons life experiences. Robert Epstein, a psychologist, completed a study with, “... More than 30,000 people showing that 30% of American teens are more competent than the median adults in a variety of ways”.…

Adults have had parents and they have had time to learn. Therefore kids have not realized what they have done is wrong and should be committed by anyone, including themselves. They need to learn and understand this when they turn about sixteen, or hopefully younger. When they get sixteen they are too old to be acting out like that. I also think that they don’t need to when they are younger than sixteen because they are just learning about life.…

The world is not a pretty place, these things happen.…

Age doesn't define whether or not you've become an adult it's the maturity that defines whether you have reached the certain point in your life where you are capable of knowing the difference between right and wrong. Sooner or later, but some happen to do so quicker. When a person turns eighteen you have the opportunity to do certain things, such as no longer having a curfew, being able to purchase alcohol ,and also voting rights, meaning that you are completely responsible for the actions you take. Looking at different cases where adolescents have committed a crime they knew that they weren't going to get punished like adults, even though they knew what they were doing was wrong. But age doesn’t define adulthood. Beck makes it clear that a person may biologically an adult, and participate in adult behaviors but may still be treated as a child if they are under age that legally defines their actions. On the other hand, a person may be of legal age to do certain actions of an adult but not have the maturity that defines adult qualities. When one is voting, they are trusted to make a mature decision. Eighteen is mature enough to decide who should run the country, but not mature enough to buy and consume alcohol legally. One is trusted to vote, but one is not trusted to have a drink. Chris Busby once stated in his monthly magazine, “If 18-year-olds are considered mature enough to fight in wars, they’re mature enough to drink in bars. To this I would add that if 18-year-olds can vote for the politicians who start wars, they’re old enough to choose the wrong brand of beer, too.”…
