John Brown was a radical antislavery advocate in the late 1850s. In 1856 Kansas, after a town that was free of slaves was raided by pro slavery supporters, John brown and his sons rounded up five supporters in a different town and murdered them. In 1859, He and eight other people that follow him infiltrated a Federal arsenal in Virginia. This raid killed Seven people stationed there and was for the purpose of gather weaponry for Slaves nearby to revolt against their owners. However, no slaves joined his cause because of his irrational actions and their chance of success in this revolt. He and six others were quickly caught and tried for treason. John Brown was hanged in Virginia in 1859 (Schultz, 2013).
