Argumentative Essay: Valley Forge

Anything worthwhile takes sacrifice. Lives are in jeopardy as the winter gets even more harsh on us, the soldiers of the American Continental Army. Valley Forge is a very cold, scary, place during this winter of 1776, not including the shortage of supplies. Smallpox is becoming a mass sickness at the camp and even the doctor is sick. We are all very weak and barely have enough food each day, if any. We haven’t had any meat in a long time, which means no protein. I have been in the field for nine months. If I decide to re-enlist, I will be unsure of the survival of my aging mother. That is one of the biggest hardships for me to bear. Even so, I am staying to re-enlist for the cause of the war. Why would I willingly fight for my country? …show more content…
Will we be at peace with our decisions? Will it still be an all out war? Our children shouldn’t have to undergo the suffering that we are going through. I am re-enlisting to fight for our country and to keep our rights intact. John Locke believes that all people have natural rights. We Americans think well and show a great respect of this belief. ”All mankind...being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions.” (Locke). John Locke is a very powerful part of the war through his writing. Thomas Paine is a very influential writer as well. His newest piece is called The Crisis. Part of this new piece states, “ Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.” It is a very strong, encouraging piece, and it is being read aloud almost everywhere including here at camp by General Washington and even some of the …show more content…
If we lose the war, my descendants will have a harder time gaining freedom and protecting their rights. To help secure the victory, I, as well as a good portion of the men, have decided to stay and fight for the separation of Britain and the American colonists. We will go to battle again soon and most likely and hopefully win this war. This will forever change the course of history. Nothing will ever be the same. It is my hope that my descendants will not have to go through the same pain and sorrow that we have. We will finally be free and so will they. The winter spent in this horrible camp will not be for nothing. Should we EVER have to go through this again, I hope whoever gets this message understands the depth and seriousness of the cause. Think about it and remember. What we did will not be for nothing. With hope, carry on to

Everywhere I go I see bloody feet and men doing everything they can to try and not get sick and some of them even trying to stay alive. This hard war was in Valley forge 18 miles northwest of philadelphia in 1777. The soldiers are struggling because they don't have what they need and that makes most soldiers not want to reenlist because of the conditions. Would you have reenlisted and done more time in these terrible conditions? I chose to go home because of the harsh conditions, lack of supplies, and because of all the deaths and illnesses.…

Life is pretty bad when your fingers are frozen and your toes poke through your shoes, isn’t it? You might be able to answer this question, since you probably haven’t been in that situation. However, the starved, freezing, poorly clothed men that were stationed at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778 could definitely answer this question. An additional question they had to ask themselves at Valley Forge was: “Will I re-enlist or will I quit?” If I would have been in a soldier’s shoes in those fateful winter days, I would have re-enlisted.…

Valley Forge was a winter camp for the colonists during December, 1777-1778. The colonists trained and fought there with courage, but some have died from diseases and lack of food. However, if I had been a soldier at Valley Forge, I would have stayed and fought with the other colonists instead of running away or quitting. One reason I would stay is because in the article “Estimates of Deaths at Valley Forge (Doc A)”, it states that only 1,800 people died out of 12,000 people in December. That is less than half of the people.…

In December of 1777 to June 1778, Washington’s Winter Camp for the Continental Army was holding 12,000 men, which was called Valley Forge and it was 18 miles off of Pennsylvania. They built 16 by 14 cabins that held 12 men, and there was no bed just mud and straw. Valley Forge was a very difficult place to live, one is that there was “poor food” and there was no ventilation in their crowded cabins. Therefore, Valley Forge was a hard, gross place to live and was very cold when winter came. So would I quit or stay?…

If I were a member of the American Continental Army and the time came for me to either quit or re-enlist, I would have quit. There are many reasons as to why I would quit. For instance, if I had survived this long, I’d probably be counting down the days to go home. Most of the soldiers or recruits could have families that miss them every single day. They would be glad to see their loved one in person rather than through a letter.…

War can kill in the typical ways such as gunshot or canonfire, but it can also kill in ways that one may not expect, as it did at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War. In December of 1777, George Washington and his troops made camp at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania with the British army stationed comfortably nearby in Philadelphia. The winter was not kind to the American soldiers, as they suffered from frostbite, starvation, and many other things that negatively impacted their health. Despite the condition of his men, Washington still wanted them to keep fighting for another 9 months. If you were suffering through the harsh winter at Valley Forge, would you have re-enlisted?…

War is not something that can be looked over easily. The Revolutionary war was something that changed the united states forever. As Tim says in My Brother Sam Is Dead “I keep thinking that there might have been another way besides war to achieve the same end.” This quote sums up the author's ideas. That war tears up families, that war causes a clash of generations, and that war sets heroic ideals and not the brutal reality.…

Hungry for Change Why is it that law mandates public school meals have a minimum calorie intake, but not a maximum? This owes itself to the fact that when nutrition standards were established for public schools, it was to solve the problem of undernourishment. The majority of school aged children used to walk to school, played more outside, and were more active in sports. This resulted in children burning more calories than school meals provided.…
