Abortion: The Obligation To Protect Life

Superior Essays
Abortion is a very touchy topic for many people. Some religions are strongly against abortion and have rallies to “Protect Life”. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy; and by some is called murder of a baby. The reasons for an abortion are often judged and cause many arguments. For this reason, and many more, abortion is one of the major things discussed in Medical Law and Ethics. Abortion isn’t just open wide and let me scrape this baby out; there are two types of abortions and a lot go into the procedures. There are Medical Abortions and Surgical Abortions. Medical Abortion is the non-surgical way of terminating a pregnancy. The woman takes a medication known as the “abortion pill” which is normally used within the …show more content…
During pregnancy, women go through several prenatal tests, and mothers can choose to go through diagnostic tests. These tests can show the sex of your baby, they can show possible birth defects, and can show genetic diseases in the baby. One condition that babies can be tested for is anencephaly. Anencephaly is a birth defect that ends in death a few hours after childbirth. The major parts of the brain, scalp, and skull of the baby do not form completely as it is developing in the uterus. It occurs when the neural tube does not close properly between the third and fourth weeks of pregnancy. An infant born with anencephaly has some or most of the brain missing, these infants are unconscious, can’t feel, and are normally deaf and blind. The infants die within hours, days, or weeks of childbirth. Anencephaly is diagnosed by blood tests, amniocentesis, an ultrasound, and a fetal MRI. If a woman gets tests done and finds out the baby is diagnosed with anencephaly and only has a few hours to live after birth, I support abortion. I do think third trimester abortions are helpful and are reasonable in cases where the baby would die right away or would suffer as it got …show more content…
If a teenager uses abortion as a method of birth control, it shouldn’t be allowed and shouldn’t be legal. If it is an unplanned pregnancy due to unprotected sex, abortion shouldn’t be legal. In cases of rape and incest, I feel like it depends on a lot, putting the baby up for adoption is a good choice and a family will get the baby and love on it even if the mother can’t. If a woman wants an abortion due to financial reasons, I think that should be illegal because there are facilities/programs set up for women in that situation. I think that if a girl younger than 14 years old gets pregnant, abortion should be legal only because her body frame is NOT capable of having a child. I think some girls don’t realize how amazing adoption is and just go straight to abortion, because there are so many people who want to have children but can’t and would love to have a newborn baby, even if they have disabilities. From personal experience my godmother can’t have children naturally. Her and her husband have been trying for years and would absolutely love to have children even if they have a disability. In the Catholic faith, abortion is perceived as murder. Women who have abortions are normally told by hardcore Catholics that they are going to hell. Religious people like to voice their opinions and like to throw the bible in every chance they get. Yes, I’m

More like the option of whether to get an abortion. Personally I am biased about the topic, so just for this time I will choose a side. Abortions are done for hundreds of reasons. Some of them being: rape, mental abnormalities, and the fear that the child might suffer. Although no one has the right to end a defenseless child’s life or any life for that matter, if the baby won’t be warmed welcomed then its best to not have it.…

A common argument for people who argue that abortion should not be legal is that they think abortion is a murder. Although there are laws about when women are able to do an abortion, some people still think it is a murder if they do an abortion early in the pregnancy since they refer to it as a life. In addition, the people who think that abortion should be illegal say that the unborn babies are human and have a right to life, and when pregnant women make an abortion they take away the right to life for the baby. Another argument that is used by the people who are against abortion is how it is morally wrong to do an abortion, it is similar to the previous arguments since the people who are against abortion think that it is morally wrong to not give birth to a child that a woman is pregnant with and not give it a life that it has the right to. Although there are many arguments about how abortion should not be legal, there are also arguments about why abortion should be legal.…

Medical abortions, one of two forms, do not require the assistance of surgery but rely on medications such as Mifepristone and/or Misoprostol to exterminate the fetus. A surgical abortion is the other form than can be completed to exterminate the fetus. Surgical abortions are performed in a health care provider’s facility which can either be an office or clinic. Aspiration is an abortion procedure that can be performed on a woman up to sixteen weeks after her most recent menstrual period.…
