Anyone serious about personal and home defense should consider owning a firearm. Our right to bear arms comes responsibility. The responsibility of proper training and knowledge of your rights as a gun owner. You should always seek professional training on more than just the basic functions of the firearm. You should focus on proper training for protecting yourself and have a plan. The plan should cover any scenario you may deem a possibility and be aware the plan can and will change. The primary driver for a change in the plan is usually small children or others in the home. Then I heard my oldest daughter scream from her bedroom. A mother hears her children cry for many reasons. Whether it is from being overly tired or maybe from being hungry, a mother gets used to hearing her children occasionally cry or throw a tantrum. The cries that lead me to grab my gun and run to my daughter’s room that day, was a sound NO mother should ever have to hear. The cries of pure terror. I clearly remember looking down the hallway, and it seemed to get longer and longer. I continued down the hall to my daughter’s bedroom. Her door was slightly open. Through the gap in the door, I could see my daughter cowering and crying in the corner. I pushed the door open and took a step into the little pink bedroom, and see a man leaning in the window reaching for my 2-year-old daughter. I did not even think. My training kicked in, and I took aim. I fired. I laid the gun on the floor, and then grabbed my trembling daughter. I locked us in my newborns room and called the police.
