He casually strolled into the campus of Umpqua Community College near Roseburg, Oregon, and opened fire. He was shot dead by a police officer after exchanging fire. Prior to the shooting, there was an Internet post on a thread, revealing his plans, and it is currently being investigated by officials. Later that day, a furious President Obama addressed the nation, his 15th address concerning mass shootings. He said, “Our prayers do nothing to stop carnage.” He is correct. When these type of tragedies happen, we always say, “They’re in our prayers.” Prayers are not enough to stop nor minimize gun violence. There has to be action taken. Amendments are needed so the nation could adapt to the changing times. It is no longer 1791, and guns are no longer needed in the hands of citizens when there are law enforcement officers doing all the protecting. How can gun possession be a right when it threatens the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness to others? How many more people must die before Congress takes
