Archbishop Williams High School appears to me like a great place to thrive educationally and socially. Five of my cousins have attended Archbishop Williams High School and my grandmother and her sister also attended Archbishop Williams High School. They all have nothing but positive feedback about the school and it’s environment. They all went on to exceptional colleges after Archbishop Williams High School. I also have a friend who went to Archbishop Williams in eighth grade two years ago when it was first offered.…
As I was reading this article I was angry and felt as if i would not agree with anything said, however, once I regarded the time period and allowed myself to be open to the opinions of others, I began to see some similarities. They were few, but similarities nonetheless. I agree with Macarthur in the aspect of some psychologists disregarding the ability to be assisted by prayer, reading the Bible and meditation with God. I believe that those things are important and vital to finding peace and well as strength through mental and emotional difficulties. Practicing “Christian” Psychologists should never advise against them or promote activity that go against Biblical teaching.…

The reading for this week consisted of Tanya Erzen’s Straight to Jesus: Sexual and Christian Conversions in the Ex-Gay Movement. Erzen’s work is an ethnography of individuals at “New Hope”, which she states is the oldest ex-gay organization in the United States (Erzen, 2006). Erzen excels at providing historical and social context in her writing along with her ethnographic findings, giving the reader a well-rounded basis to form their opinions from. The “ex-gay” movement is one that is widely known, with ardent supporters as well as extremely influential people opposed to the movement (Erzen, 2006). It is common knowledge that Vice President Mike Pence is known to be a supporter of the ex-gay movement, with people claim he has made statements…

How evangelical Churches have acted on the American society would be an example to apply the concept of religious politics into one of the cases in America Grace. In the same vein of Lincoln’s anti-slavery politics, in America, the social religion rooted in evangelicalism brought about religious politics and political religion. Putnam and Campbell assert, “Evangelical Protestants comprise one of the most significant religious traditions in America” (12). Based on evangelicalism as the social religion, people saw a certain issue as the personal incentive to activate individual or group actions in society. Furthermore, people found the incentives for collective action of religious institutions, as the mobilization to support political goals.…
Change in DSM In 1973 a historic advance in social justice took place and homosexuality was removed as a mental disorder from the DSM. The APA then acknowledged that not only was homosexuality not a mental illness, but there was a need for revision in the practice guidelines and ethical standards pertaining to sexual orientation. The APA recognized that mental health practitioners would need to go about offering services to people who identify as gay, lesbian, and bisexual in a very different way than they once had. However, despite the social movement, APA’s realization of the necessity for new standards, and the removal of homosexuality from the DSM, it has proven to be a difficult task for the mental health field to reeducate and train…
As Mike Pence prepares to take office as Vice President, the LGBTQ+ community awaits the many difficulties he may pose for their fight for equality, especially considering his stance on conversion therapy for homosexuals. Despite United States Surgeon General David Satcher issuing a report in 2001 stating that there is no valid scientific evidence that sexual orientation can be modified or changed with medical or psychological intervention, Mike Pence has involved himself in supporting efforts that seem to be linked to conversion, or “reparative,” therapy. Fighting conversion therapy is nothing new to the LGBTQ+ community. Since the early Freudian period, many have attempted to change sexual orientations to fit hegemonic standards of the corresponding…
In two thousand nine, two year old Kent Schaible died from pneumonia. Just three years later Kent’s brother Brendon died when he was only eight months old from diarrhea, vomiting, and breathing issues that lasted for more than a week. The untimely deaths of these brothers were the consequences of their parent’s decision to choose faith healing over seeking medical attention. This is just one example of a case in which faith healing resulted in the death of a juvenile. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, faith healing is “a method of treating diseases by prayer and exercise of faith in God.”…
How is it that problems such as bullying and suicide are so prominent in a world considered to be the most advanced it has ever been? Among today’s youth, suicide is an important and rising concern. In communities around the United States of America, this problem especially affects lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. Bullying against such individuals is still a relevant issue despite efforts for equal rights. Support systems are an important part of stopping these reoccurring tragedies.…

Argumentative Essay For centuries, great minds have examined the debate on the impact of the Reformation, Scientific Advancement and Explorers between the 16th and 18th centuries. Many events occurred, such as, the Reformation against the Roman Catholic Church popes which changed a lot of religions and peoples thoughts about the Roman Catholic Church. All of these events contributed to the idea that reformation and religion are better than scientific revolution and explorers. Thus reformation and religion is the most important period of time because there were a lot of changes that went on with the reformation that has changed the religion of people today, because Jesus Christ was really the first Martin luther he wanted the Romans and Jewish…
Everyone has morals and beliefs that set a baseline for what they value. Values vary between individuals, but for many, religion is the root from where these values stem from. While it is good to morally question, today personal religious affiliation is increasing in collective matters and actions, expressed in politics, protests, and biased beliefs. It’s important to note that religion and politics are two different domains that should not intermingle, as religion is a personal ideology while politics embody a rational, collective process. Good politics are policy oriented and not concerned with external factors related to politicians and their personal lives.…
Marriage has always been between a man and a woman, right? Well, then what happens when you suddenly change the definition and turn it into a “loving, romantic union between committed adults?” (Vogt). It doesn’t work like that. It confuses society and children.…
