Gun control has been a hot topic in the United States since the time Roosevelt was in office. Starting with Roosevelt where there were only two federal statutes, and going to the Clinton era and having two decades worth of policy and laws on firearms, firearm laws have changed drastically. But with Congress stepping in and getting help from state legislature, all the goals of having a gun safe world is being destroyed and being limited to three realistic goals such as reducing possession by high-risk people, restricting access from certain people, and using guns to stop top level offenders. Federal level firearm policy hasn’t really changed since the Brady Law and assault weapon restrictions in 1993. But none of these laws have changed the…

The Problems with Gun Control Before we begin on the topic of Gun Control, I would like to confess that I am completely against it. I feel that is unfair to the people who use these guns in their daily lives for hunting or fun. I personally use a gun for simple things such as shooting gophers or for target practice. Knowing that we have guns in our house makes me feel safe if there was ever a thief or killer in the area. In this day in age, you never know what people can and will do to another human being.…

Right to Bear Arms How many Criminals care if they have a concealed carry before they commit a crime? No criminal is going to make sure they have the right to carry the gun in their possession before they decide to go out and commit a crime. “U.S. crime justice department took a survey that found that 79% of state prison inmates that carried a firearm putting them in jail came from an illegal source” (Stewart). Taking away the right to bear arms will not reduce the amount of crime in the U.S. Taking the right to bear arms away is only punishing those who do right. The percent of legal guns purchased to use to commit a crime is very small, the correlations do not properly add up.…

It should be to reduce the number of people who carry guns unlawfully, especially in places -- on streets, in taverns -- where the mere presence of a gun can increase the hazards we all face” (Wilson, 126). James Q. Wilson’s idea is excellent. Government should be to reduce the number of people who carry guns unlawfully and increase efforts to combat crime, rather than simply execute gun control. Hopefully the government of the United States will make a right…

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Most people would think that this section was written specifically for Militia, particularly considering the fact that the Nation had successfully revolted against England. In fact the Supreme Court agreed that this section addressed State Militia for most of the Country’s history. That meant that governments could place restrictions on possession of firearms. While Cities continued to restrict gun ownership, gun advocates promoted their interpretation in legislation and media and in 2008 the Supreme Court held that this Amendment that says ‘well regulated Militia’ didn’t really mean that and instead it meant, anybody can keep and bear Arms with some minor exceptions.…

Based on the national average, 306 people will die today from gun violence. (Every Town Research) Explanations for the cause of these tragic events might cause some to wonder why so many guns always end up in the hands of the wrong people.
