There are there other alternatives, ending a person’s life is not the solution, instead of the capital punishment they should be getting life in prison without parole. Abolishing the death penalty does not mean we are not going to punish the criminal; it only means we are doing it in a way that will not disrespect the life of a human. Giving the person life in prison will make the criminal learn a lesson rather than taking a life away which will only cause pain to the family. The state of California has wasted billions on the death penalty “The authors concluded that the cost of the death penalty in California has totaled over $4 billion since 1978” (“Costs of death penalty” 2008). Being removed from death penalty and put to life without parole, California would save about $170 million per year and $5 billion over the next 20 years. The death penalty is way too expensive and it does not help with deterrence of crime, rather it is only ruining society and shown to increase crime rather than lower it. Having the death penalty does not scare those who are willing to commit crimes; it is the complete opposite “Around our country, states without the death penalty have a lower murder rate than neighboring states with the death penalty.” (“The Facts: 13 Reasons 2006).
